Oh, I don't think there's something wrong with the device, more in my technique/packing. When I was sandwhiching the flower between the interior screen and the bucket screen at first, I packed it pretty loosely. With the bucket packs, I've gotten some scorching, but lots of vapor for 2-3 hits...
