but the herc was never marketed as being conservative with oil, quite the opposite from what ive read on here. On the bright side, i hear the black rod is more conservative than the white rod. I got my black rod a couple days ago, but i havent vaped in a while so i cant confirm that myself...

Are you looking to vape oil or herb? the carts are for oils and are dispensible. They meter out a grams worth of oil over several hundred hits; about 500 hits to a gram. So i mean from that information alone you can gather that the vapor isnt going to smell anything near as strong as herb smoke...

as far as i know its the same deal as if you were running it with just oil for the coil size. But you're gonna want to use a cut coil so that you can fit in more herb. SO 30% sounds good to me.
