Thanks for your responses, I'm going to stick with it. Yeah, I've had several sessions with it as well running it from fully charged to no charge at 390°F to test battery endurance(1.5 + hours, not sure if that's standard?). Anyways, thank you and everyone else who helped figure this out.

At this moment I don't think the noise is present during cool down. I'll find out as soon as I can. Question is though, if it IS expansion, wouldn't it stop making that noise after prolonged time at high temperature? Plus the noise comes from the center not the bottom.

When you say electrical short and/or arching... is that it inconsequential? Thanks in advance

Thanks for helping me bring some attention to this, most people have answered that they don't hear anything. Perhaps I wasn't specific enough, the "crackling" type sounds can only be heard if you put the device right next to your ear while it's heating/maintaining a fairly high temperature...
