You need an insulator to keep the heat in. Metal tubes won't work. I think at this point you are better off to keep these as spare parts. And you have a nice spare battery :)

Thanks @luke007! Wow, it looks like the solderjoints are right below the chamber! That pretty much "kills" the notion that the airpath is isolated from the electronics. Some of these solders can contain lead too! So everytime we inhale, the air flowing is over those solder joints? They should...
