imho, milky hits things is somewhat of a personal pref.. and for me depends on density of bowl/surface to air ratio, strain and temp... and how long it has been used. I seem to almost always get visible vapor on the first heat up hit.. and less vapor each first heat up hit. after 3-4 heat ups...

wunner, sounds like you have a wonky unit. Please get a rma, and have it checked out. "burnt gas rises in a cloud from the finned side" is not normal. I know I wouldn't want to use it if it made me feel unsafe. That is why I don't use MFLB, using batts, and unable to easily use one...

Unfortunately not all brand new out of the box iolites are the same. I opened up a new one this weekend, loaded it with the usual prepared dosage of meds, and dam if this thing would not get as hot as any of my previous io's. Now I can understand why some peeps say they have to wait minutes...
