Crafty/Crafty+ by Storz & Bickel

@fatbiker, I believe you "basically" explained it yourself:

I've made my decision and think I am forced to buy a Crafty over a Mighty. I just can't have a portable vape that big. I'll just have to make sure to keep it charged at all times. I am sure if I do half packed chambers and be conscious with the timer and try to optimize the battery. If I am able to get 3-4 sessions from it I guess I'll have to made due with that. Portability is a must!

So are you saying that you get two half-packed sessions out of your Crafty? What if you go to a concert or out on a boat for the day? That is my concern about buying a Crafty is that the battery is basically worthless. I understand you can bring a battery pack with your Crafty but that is a pain in the butt. I need to get a few sessions even if they are half packed out of it. If it can't get me through a concert or boating day its not for me.

This will depend on how you use it, i only have 13 hours on mine but i can get 6 full bowls out of one battery charge (although i think this would be too harsh for most users as i have to finish a bowl in around 2 minutes to get this many) if i take my time (around 10 mins per bowl) i get 3/4 full bowls per battery charge.

If i compare this to my arizer air or haze the battery does seem the weak point, but IMO this is down to the way the crafty works and not down to a bad choice of battery, i could be wrong here but IMO the crafty is more convection based which uses more power? Like my firefly that goes through battery's fast.

You need to think about what is more important to you, with the crafty IMO its strong point is the big amount of vapor and quality/taste (taste only a very little way behind the firefly IMO) of vapor it can produce while drawing as hard as you like (the heater is fantastic) i use mine as my big hitter, if the battery is a worry for you get the mighty then you also have temp control on the device (no need for phone if on a boat)

We are lucky and unlucky at the same time, as there are so many great vapes out there right now.

For groups or long days the arizer air or haze may fit better as you get more out of each battery and can carry a few spares, and both do perform as good at getting you where you want to be just in a different way.

While everyone has different wants/needs there will never be a perfect vape for everyone, each one has some kind of trade-off, best you can do is think about what is really important for your usage and find the one that best fits or succumb to VAS and empty your bank

Hope some of this helps and doesn't just gives you a headache :hmm: it is late in the UK so I've already started my rituals, I've given my offerings to the crafty and I'm sure my prayers of sleep will soon be answered:rofl:.

Edit: just read your post and i would suggest full bowls over half bowls to get the most out of it, as heat up IMO uses more power than maintaining it, my usage would suggest this as i get longer run time (in minutes) when taking my time and working the heater less aggressive, when i have hungry lungs i get through more herb but with shorter run time, but with half bowls you will use almost the same power to heat up but only use half the herb although you should get through it faster.

Just to clarify, after the Crafty reaches your desired temp you only push the button twice (2 minutes) per session. At that rate you are getting 6 sessions?

Portability is my main concern. Do you use your Crafty is a portable unit you cary and use all over your travels?

I don't need to push the button, because I'm hitting it hard and drop the temp enough it doesn't shut off.

But yes after heat up i finish the bowl in 2 mins and get more bowls it will get you messed up, but sometimes ok most of the time thats what I'm after :science: When i reach for my crafty.

As with any vape how long your session is will make a difference to how many you get, but heat up power usage will always limit the amount in total. If your sessions last longer you will always get less of them.

What is your temp set at on your crafty?

When you head out for the day do you typically take it with or does the battery prevent you from taking it places?

For those of you who try to get the most out of your battery, what is the most you can get out of your crafty's battery?

Temps is 175 c start and boost +20 (lower than i use with others but works well on the crafty for me) i may not get every last bit (in 2mins) of goodness but almost, and then i have leftovers to play with later:D

And i have taken my crafty out but not much, its my special toy for stressful times or bedtime, out and about i take my air or haze but thats more to do with IMO they hit more like a j so easier to pass around in a group, and not so much about battery life but the fact that if i ruin a battery in one of those i simply put a new one in, no need to send off and pay more.

I originally didn't want the might due to size, but the crafty was sold out locally and they had the mighty with a $408 price tag...
...so due to my VAS I got the mighty just because I could have it in my hands AT THAT MOMENT!:rofl:
getting it home I realized 'it ANT that big' so I dreamed sweet dreams of the potentially smaller crafty and all I was missing out on
Got a crafty for a really good deal and was debating selling my mighty...so I used the crafty exclusively for a week...
...and fuck that! I realized the craftys limitations were not worth the size trade off...my girlfriend likes the crafty and uses it mostly
as for me... I like my vape thick 'i'm all about that bass' and the mighty gives you enough, it can fit it in my pocket AND I can leave home without a battery pack
...I ask her everyday when I get home how the crafty was and her most frequent response is DEAD :rip:

How do you charge your Mighty when you are on the go if you have to? The more I think about it I may just get the Mighty

I will go a little off topic here but promise to mention the crafty,

@fatbiker if you have the money, and size and battery is important there is always something like the Vapman which is tiny and uses no battery just a torch lighter, it will have a learning curve ( i should find out in the next few days:clap:...damn you VAS) but you could get the mighty or crafty (see i did mention it:lmao:) and a Vapman for those long days out.

Sorry if I've complicated things

The Vapman is awesome once you get the hang of it. The Crafty is incredible if you aren't a heavy user. I've had mine since Oct/Nov and only have 14 hours on it. I love it. If you plan to use it multiple times/day, the Crafty might be a bit light weight. Having said that, I tend to charge mine with a portable battery and it charges in less than 2 hours. I get 3-4 full bowls per charge and my smaller battery pack can charge the Crafty 4-6 times.

 this is pretty much exactly the same as my experience with the Crafty, I thought I was gonna sell my Mighty and use the Crafty exclusively too.... but the Crafty battery wouldn't allow it

My Crafty ain't producing the same thick clouds of vapour as before. I have cleaned the CU in iso, however I have not cleaned the screen or anything under it in the filling chamber. Has anyone experienced a decrease in clouds/vapour production?

As of now, my PAX 2 is creating bigger, clearer and thicker clouds.

How long have you been using the crafty? Can you still see the holes under the heating chamber screens?

I have about 13 hrs on my crafty and I can still see the holes under the heating chamber screen.

Do you still get the same draw rate or is that reduced? And its probably a silly question but best to start with the basics, have you changes strains? as this can impact visuals. Remember bigger clouds don't always mean more medicated.

I'm still using the same strain since I got the Crafty. When I first got the Crafty, my friends and I were blown away by how much vapour it produces and how visible it was. Within the last two days, I noticed a reduction in visible vapours and the draw rate is reduced. I always cough on the third/fourth draw on the Crafty, however since this issue happened, I have not been coughing nor feeling the effect on my lungs. On the PAX 2, I start coughing almost immediately so I know it's not me getting used to the strain or anything.

I had the same issue. Was getting massive clouds then I couldn't even finish a bowl off after a while. Could have been from charging it in the car or not using it enough, or leaving it charging overnight by accident. Who knows honestly, so many things that can go wrong these batteries. Send it in with a nice note saying how much you loved it when you first got it and how you notice the crafty is not producing clouds like it used to and you can't even finish a bowl off completely anymore. I hardly had any hours on mine when I sent it in with that note and mine was number 1600 something and they sent me a brand new one that is 11,000 something the next day! At first I didn't like their customer service attitude but once you understand how they work they are the best to deal with!

Thank you! My Crafty is CY008XXX which isn't too old I suppose. I did accidentally leave my Crafty charging overnight and this could be the cause of it.

Reduced draw rate would suggest some blockage IMO, @DMPesso did you notice this with yours?

If using the pad that might just need a clean. If your not using the pad and the cu draw unattached is good it could be under the screen, others here have removed their oven screen to clean, i guess if you grind really fine bits could get down there.

Electronics are fickle things at times although IMO there is not a lot to go wrong with the battery by itself (although this may very well be the case even good/new batteries can go wrong) as the crafty will have a PCB of sorts that should regulate/cutoff charge if not it would go boom when left charging, and if it was just the battery you should not be getting more draw resistance from that alone.

Having said all that even with a slower draw it should still kick out clouds (mine has the same hours as yours and does) so something is wrong somewhere, your coughing description would suggest to me either less vapor (reduced draw) or temp issues causing it as higher temps or big amounts are what will make you cough.

If the hard reset or extra cleaning (if needed) doesn't help then it could be as @DMPesso suggested best to send her off for the pros to fix.

Wishing you luck and a speedy fix.

Thank you for all of your help! When I get home from work, I will try a hard reset and hopefully this fixes it. If it does not, I will be sending this directly to Storz & Bickel.
