Not having success eating my ABV

Vapes on vapes on vapes!
Hello all. I have only tried twice to make edibles with my ABV. I tried to make the ABV milkshake using 1/3 cup of finely ground ABV and I also have tried to make the traditional firecracker. When I made the milkshake I had heated it in the microwave for 2:00 on 75% power per the instructions and when I made the firecrackers I wrapped them in foil and put the temp at 320 I believe. There was a thread discussing how long and what temp to heat the firecrackers at, but can't remember offhand where it was. Anyways, both times I followed instructions and recipes that had worked for other people and used quite a bit more ABV with little to no result. I believe I ate around 6g of ABV within a few hours when making the firecrackers because the milkshake hadn't worked for me. The vaporizer I use is the Plenty and I pretty much always have it up to the highest temp (listed at 420, it usually doesn't get quite that hot) by the end of the bowl so I'm not sure if that is a big factor.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated,
Pick.

Your material is probably fairly spent. How dark is it? When I use ABV in a recipe, I almost triple the amount vs fresh herb.

Edited: (Where are my manners)
First of all, thanks for the response!

It is a solid brown. I wouldn't say dark brown, but a pretty solid brown. Sorry I'm not sure what to compare it to so I found this picture online. This is not mine, but it is very similar in color to what I have and I don't have a digital camera at the moment.

I'm guessing, like you said, that it is fairly spent and I'll have to figure out which amount works for me.

six grams in a couple hours? I'd be in hiding in a couch cushion fort all night if i tried that.

even the darkest looking abv will have goodies and if you are heating that high while vaping you are already decarbing it so don't worry about having the temps perfect on those edible instructions.

Some people have the ability to eat quantities that would mutate others into TMNT and still not feel the effects, I suspect it has something to do with liver enzymes. That being said, combustion may be a better option if you are trying not to waste the ABV, but if you are against combustion, you can try to make extra strong edibles.

Yup. Some people will never get high on edibles. Has something to do with how our bodies can or cannot assimilate THC and process it into 11-hydroxy-THC. For some, they just lack what is necessary to process it.

I thought I would never feel the same as others explained when digesting herb. That is until I found decarbing and lecithin granules.

Well, my previous attempts all failed using even as much as 8 gms of high end chronic, double boiler, etc. Then I found my ssv, and fuck combustion, truly great finds, both! I was able to find bad kats canna pharm recipes through gc forums, and it got great reviews so I tried one, hot damn it worked! The temps vary when decarbing, I use 220 for 20 minutes in a pan wrapped in foil inside an oven, or until smell is really strong. I use a crockpot with coconut oil and use the keep warm setting for about 3 days, my best batch was around 80 gms of abv into one cup oil. Also soy lecithin granules have something to do with water soluble into fat, I'm no genius lol. It works though, research these and it will help for sure!

There's a number of reasons for why it may improve the effect. For one, lecithin is a surfactant, meaning a molecule with both polar and non-polar zones, which causes miscibility of non-polar substances with polar ones. This may increase uptake, or simultaneous uptake of the responsible compounds.
The temperature you are decarboxylating at not is not appreciably different the the temperatures that should be encountered in a double boiler. Not to say that the double boiler doesn't operate at a lower temperature, just that in normal use the temps are approximately equal.

One difference to be considered though is the cannabinoid ratios that you will affect by decarbing in open atmosphere versus submerged in oil. If open to atmosphere it is possible that oxidation could occur more readily, increasing the oxidative product mass ratio (more oxidized product per unoxidized product).

It is suspected by some that what many people are looking for is an dosage high in CBN, which is an oxidative product suspected to be responsible for the intoxicating effects of cannabis.

Right on! I get massive head waves, sort of narcotic like effects as opposed to my best rips of ssv have me grabbing my bar out of fear of passing out, kind of like whip its. I enjoy a nice mix of both or heavy ends of one...:D

Well, I'm gonna try tossing 7g on a pizza without doing anything else to it and see if it works.

even the darkest looking abv will have goodies and if you are heating that high while vaping you are already decarbing it so don't worry about having the temps perfect on those edible instructions.

Other than putting it on the hot pizza I'm gonna do without the decarbing process to test it out. I go through a lot of herb, so I'm not worried about a possible failed experiment. If this does't work I will look in to other options such as the one SSVUN~YAH posted or if I hear other good ideas.

Ah ok. I meant that I didn't heat it up any more (like the recipes in my original post said to). Didn't work again :\. I will have to look in to your suggestion and start saving up more at a time.

If you used 7 g's of abv and didn't get an effect, I'm really thinking that you won't be able to dose by ingestion.

I would recommend finding another route of administration. I found that the HA can pull a few bags off of stuff that looks like what you posted.

The other method I can imagine would be combustion. Either way it appears that you are unable to metabolize the ingested compounds effectively, If 7g's didn't work, don't bother continuing, that's a very large dose, especially considering how much less ABV weighs due to the lack of water.

Thanks all for the replies. It appears that eating ABV isn't going to work for me. Still, I have come to love vaporizing so much that it doesn't bother me too much. I will look in to the HerbalAire and if nothing else I can make my friends some ABV goodies.

You might try coconut oil and soy lechitin if you try again like a previous poster suggested if that doesn't work then you are SOL ;)

Like Puffers said try coconut oil and soy lecithin one last time. I was in the same boat as you, until one time it just magically worked, I think I was a bit more particular in my processes. It was such a nice surprise, I was just browsing the net and realised all of a sudden that I was baked, kinda crept on me. Anyways, if you get some spare herb you can use give it a go properly using BadKittySmiles method (coconut oil + soy lecithin + freezing halfway through + eating before for first pass effect)

This ^, and many eat edibles, smoke/vape as fuckers and then say the edible didn't work cause they are already high.
I wouldn't get an HerbalAire just to darken your ABV anyway.

justcametomind,
This is my first post here. I've been reading and learning for months so here goes.

My experiences with edibles have been very similar to the OP. First off, I am also using The Plenty. I would have thought the AVB produced by The Plenty would be perfect for edibles due to the fact that it doesn't seem to get too hot. I tend to vape with the setting at 7 (the highest) and most would agree that this leaves AVB that still has a greenish kind of look to it in parts. If the temperature got higher I imagine there is still more goodness that could be extracted from the material.

Anyway, I have conducted 4 experiments and all have failed or only produced very mild results. I started with the peanut butter/nutella milkshake using 1 large tablespoon of AVB. I have also tried firecrackers 3 times with varying temperatures and amounts of AVB. I would have so say that in all 4 experiments any effects have been extremely minimal. For the last batch of firecrackers I used 3 large tablespoons of AVB.

So to the OP, don't worry, it isn't just you. I have no idea why it isn't working. I really don't think it is due to the AVB being spent though. Comparing the Plenty to other vapes I would say there would be a comparitively large amount of THC still there in the AVB.

In any case I am going to save a good amount of AVB up and try to make cannabis butter next. Hopefully that will do the trick!

A quick way to prove to yourself that actives still remain is to combust it.

I find the HA extracts quite a bit out of other vapes ABV.
Given the green-ness testified to, I would suspect that there is quite a bit left, though color means nothing.

I agree with you that combustion is a good test. My first vape was the MFLB and it worked great for me at first but then not so good after a couple of months. I suspected the batteries were weakening and combusted which proved my theory. However, to be really honest, fuck combustion. I didn't lose any sleep over it but really felt like I had let myself down. To be honest I really hope to never combust again.
