Headaches and heat flashes after I vape

Hello All,

I am a new member, but I have been reading the forums for a few months. They have been very helpful. Thank you.

I am having a problem. Whenever I vape, I develop these symptoms:

1. Heat flashes/ sweats
2. Dizziness
3. Pressure build up behind my ears
4. Slight headaches

We can rule out the following as reasons:

1. My vapes. I have The Davinci and the Plenty. Both excellent vapes
2. My medicine. I have a very reliable source and the quality is high. I tried both indica and sativa. I like sativa more
3. Temps. I tried high temps, low temps. I tend to use low temps more
4. breathing/draw speed etc. I tried it all too
5. Amount of medicine per session. Once again, I tried every option.

I have only one conclusion as to why I develop these symptoms. I know it's a stretch but I think since I was a smoker for over 20 years ( I started vaping 8 months ago), my body is actually missing the bad stuff smoke produces and therefore I am having a negative reaction. I was hoping this was the case and I did what any sensible user would do...I increased my sessions. I figured my body would build up a tolerance and I would push through this threshold and begin enjoying the wonderful world of vaping. This has not happened yet. So I am at my wits end and need your help. Does anybody have these same symptoms or can anyone help me find a solution?

Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks. More water for sure. What about caffeine? Cut it down.

That can be the 6th one to rule out. It's def not menopause.

Caffeine is great in the morning especially if you can do the old wake and bake!
Be careful cutting down on coffee as headaches will let you know just how addicted to
caffeine you are.

More water for sure, most simple headaches are from lack of hydration. A clear urine
stream is a wonderful thing. I wish I could follow my own advice. My piss often looks
like lemonade. TMI ?

I get these same symptoms sometimes. Try higher temp vapor it gives a more balanced high IMO. Also take it slow between hits, no back to back hits, remember vapor is alot more potent than smoke even though it may not feel like it at first.

All good advice. Thanks. I will keep you posted.

I just wanted to give you an update. I took all of the advice given to me. I drank a lot of water and vaped at a higher temp today, #6 on the Plenty which is about 385f, (rather than my usual 5) and then I maxed it out at 7, to finish things off. I also delayed my draws a bit and kept drinking water like Papy says in between hits. I guess I am a little nervous taking a lot of time in-between hits. I am always thinking my bowl will get cooked off.

Things went much much better today, so thanks for all the good advice it really helped My headaches went away and I felt great. I still got a little dizzy, but maybe that is because of the tremendous hits the Plenty provides.

I guess this is a good enough reason to cut out all that sugary drinks and stick with good old h2o. F Combustion!!!

Also for me holding the hits in too long gets me kinda dizzy/drowsy. I just do it like 5 seconds now to not get discomfort.

Things are going much much better since I changed my routine. Thanks again for everyone's input
One last question Nosferatu if you don't mind. How much time should I wait in between hits so they won't be considered " back to back"? Is it like 10 secs or is it more like a couple of minutes? I typically vape on the DL and therefore I try to be discrete and fast with my sessions.

I guess it would be different for everyone but I just meant re catch your breath before taking another hit right away so you don't get lightheaded. Vapor can be a little uncomfortable in large amounts so I usually wait 30 seconds at least between a hit, just naturally, it's more pleasing. But if your on the DL just take it slow and sip water and make sure your lungs are ready to take in a hit and hold it properly. Maybe also make sure you blow out all the vapor after a deep hit, and don't let yourself swallow any.

EDIT: Realized you said you get pressure behind the ears, I have observed that for me uncured or wet bud clogs my ears when I vape, it's very discomforting. But that could be different. I'm curious did you start vapng for health or for recreation?

Md note: this was suppose to be an edit of my last post, I don't know what happened.. :science:

Anyone get this weird nose stuffiness? I'm assuming it's from the vapors? I guess it's my sinuses... It tends to clear up with a single pseudoephedrine pill or a bit of mentholated snuff. I don't get any ear stuff, but I do get pressure changes in my eyes as well (and it's the tell-tale sign for me when whatever opiates I take are about to kick in) that goes away after a little bit.

I do also get a burning throat, but that's usually after I milk my bong hard and realize I combusted a tiny minuscule bit :(

I get the stuffy nose and ear clogging from shitty buds, or buds that are too wet or not dried right. Could be more too it but that's certainly what I observed.

Cool. Great advice. It's amazing how robust the vape experience can be. But I am like 90 % there with my issues. I'm sipping Pappy, I'm sipping. The higher temps is key to for me too. It's fuller.
Yes, I definitely get pressure behind the ears so I will take better care of my bud. I will be sure to keep a look out for some of that pineapple kush, but those of us in non legalized zones still gots ta rough it a bit.

Ah, moisture still. Thought that had something to do with it. My buds aren't shitty, quite the opposite, actually. Oh well, BACK TO THE DRY RACK

I got a headache in the sides of my head when I vaped out of a unit that had a plastic shell. So I stopped using those kinds of vaporizers, especially ones that smell hot like plastic. I don't know about the Plenty, but I avoided using the DaVinci for that reason.

Otherwise, you can check that the herb is not moldy or grown with pesticide.

What do you mean back to the dry rack, do you cure your buds? The way it should be done is immediately after harvest you must trim all leaves otherwise you compromise the flavor and potency. Then hang or lay to dry while still on branches mainly. After the outside is dry but inside moist and stems about ready to snap when bent3-10 days), put buds in glass jars giving them air every day first 4 or 5 days then maybe only once a week. After about a month the bud will be ready to use and the fragrance will be danker than ever and all the chlorophyll and shit that are irritating in the vape will be gone.

My bad if I'm telling you something you already know but i just don't see how you said there going back to the dry rack.

Shit... Nos, I don't grow. I have a small rack-type of a spot in my closet which is perfect for laying out nugs to dry, the temp is cool and no sun shines through, but I have a heater-type of a thing which can dry them out nicely. I'll keep my terminology in mind so as to avoid confusion next time.

Oh haha my bad man....your problem could be anything then but good to know it's mostly better, maybe you are just detoxing from the smoke like you said. Good luck!

as far as I know trimming right away is not for flavor potency(opposite actually, I often read that apparently leaving the leaves on longer gives better taste in the endproduct, DJshort also says this in one of his articles), but more for ease, since if it's not dried yet the leaves stick out the bud and so are easy to trim off, while if they are dry they fold/curl against the buds and you have to stick the scissors under it before you can trim the leaf off. I myself have never trimmed it completely wet, only the largest fanleaves, I don't mind trimming dry and with a small harvest you can spread it out more of you trim dry, I just trimmed one branch every night while watching tv, still not a fun chore, but better as trimming everything fresh at once

but curing can change a lot indeed, especially for sativa's. 2 year ago I had a sativa outdoorstrain that at first seemed promising(when I vaped some wich wasn't dried yet), but when it was dry it was a bit disappointing, it was harsh and not as potent as I had hoped. but after a 2-3 month cure, it was smooth, and more potent+good taste

Well I guess it is user prefereance but the reason it's better to trim right away is because the leaves are full of chlorophyll. So while the buds dry the moisture is evening out. All the harsh shit in the leaves will transfer to the bud and lots the good stuff in the buds will transfer to the leaves. So when people leave a few leaves on for looks they are actually risking the potency, flavor and smoothness of the finished product. How big a difference, I don't know, but I'll stick to the tried and true.

mod note: the last few posts are both off-topic and bordering on growing, which is not allowed under the rules. please get back on track, thanks

The unfortunate truth is different substances do different things to different people. It's that simple. In heath care, if a patient is experiencing symptoms like the original poster describes a medical professional would almost certainly advise them to discontinue usage of said drug immediately. They might want to try a different delivery system.

Vaping may not be for you. As far as why? That would be for a medical professional to help you figure out. And you should only really get health advice from a real medical professional and not from an anonymous source on the internet. That's not to say information from said source would be wrong, but without them knowing your full history and seeing you in person, you simply can't rely on that information.

"vaping may not for you" might very well be the worst news I have heard in a long time. Although I have been doing all the things everyone has advised me, I am still feeling some questionable side effects like the ones I described in my first post. They have definitely gotten better, so I have been hopeful, but my experiences are a far cry from what I read about from others on this site. I even traded my DV due to the gassing issues and bought the Pax. It is disheartening to read the Pax forum sometimes because they describe it as so revolutionary. I think is is too, and I totally love it but I just wish my high was a bit more enjoyable.

Combustion or other delivery methods is not an option for me. Even with my issues, vaping is still way better (that says a lot), and I will never smoke again. I might have to give up MJ altogether (I would add some smiley face symbols here if I took the time to learn how).

My next step will be to get some medical advice. I will probably get a full physical, speak with them about my situation, and we will see how it goes. I just find it so hard to believe that I was a hard core smoker for 20 years, and my body is rejecting vapor???

Anyway, for now I will pack myself a full bowl (oven) and get ready for Breaking Bad. My sitiuation always seems a bit better after watching an episode. "Homie's already dead but he don't know yet..."

I am always very appreciative of everyone's input. Thank you.

Id suggest also sourcing quality/full bodied, rganic & or veganic or full flushed good budd 'strain' that work for you.

Sounds to me as if you mmay have a gluten intoleerance. Just my kinda random guess but hey that wouldn't be awful.

Unfortunately, those of us in non mmj states do not have the luxury of variety. Sometimes it's downright disheartening to read about all the goody concoctions you guys in legal states get to come up with. I'm totally jealous!

Volcantv...what can I do about a gluten intolerance?

But now an update about my condition. I have great news! I am feeling much MUCH better. Not 100% yet, but close. I did not get my check up yet, but I started taking a multi vitamin. I guess smoething was out of wack in my system, because since taking my vitamins, I feel really good. I still get some mild headaches and a little dizzy, but it is nothing like it used to be. And yes, I still plan on getting a full check up.

Vaping really does equal healthy living. It truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
