Well, first try did not go well. Combusted the absolute bajesus out of it. I heard some sizzling so I'm thinking there was a some water left in there and I think it threw everything off.

Anyone mind sharing the wand settings that work for them? I way overshot it
295-310c until Timeout works for me (in a 30c room) - max I go is 310c as above that I have to manage the temp with my breath

Keen to hear your first impressions guys :)
My first two tries i used the half-bowl setting @300c. First was perfect, second smelled borderline combusted. I had to re-clean the airpath that fast😂
Since then I moved to the full bowl and 290-295c seems right. Dark brown roast after 3-4 pulls with nice clouds. Thats with the helix tube and no SCU. My dynavap with a simrell collar is officially retired.
Im also very impressed with how well the reload works with the Tempest. I spend alot of weekends having to “step outside and walk the dog” to partake and this will make it much easier.
Ill be recommending this for sure. Brenyo will sell a ton of these

Do you guys go until the blinking stops or until it says time out?
Ive been going to time out, but if you are having trouble try using the visual indicator to the third mark. I use that to re-heat

@Beansuppa I only go to the blinking stops, but I am chasing low temp flavor.

And I only go 1.5-2 on my visual; but I don’t believe all of the test units have the same calibration. You’ll find your sweet spot over the first few days, then just keep dialing it in!

Yeah I'm having issues for sure. I'm getting really uneven roasts, with borderline burnt herb in spots on the top (not the whole thing, just a spot off to the side), with golden herb at the bottom.

I'm experimenting with wand insert depth because it feels like the bowl is too close to the induction coils if I have it even to the red silicone like recommended.

Yep this. I also dropped my Wand down to 490F (~250C) and let it go to timeout and have been pretty happy there too. For reheats I stop around the time the edge of the VI passes the second marker and it settles right at or just past it. Happy times for me!

I think my biggest issue is not trusting it because I'm so trained by the clicks on vapcaps lol. I'm going to try your setting next and just leave it alone and trust the process haha.

I have the insert set just a smidge past the red silicone, so if i set the wand on a table i can hear it click.

Im finding the airway very easy to clean with cotton tips and iso. I also slipped a small dab sized piece of shatter in with a full pack for science. It took a couple pulls to get clouds, but they came. Surprised to not find a huge mess afterwards.

It sounds like wand adapter to me too. I had the same issue at first, I combusted a few times, droped down to 300c until timeout and played with the adapter setting until that (from cold) was just a mild roast and then I started to up the temp / time. I also had the problem of herb falling onto the ball screen and burning even because I tipped it down to fast and the herbs shifted in the bowl so I just am more gentle now

been using Rosin and... it just a really really enjoyable way to use it and amazingly the extraction is so good there is very little residue left over

My biggest question now is can i get the tempest, wand and reload past concert security?
considering what I have got past security in my time, I am sure you can - only thing is security is so much heavier now days compared to when I was going to concerts all the time

Im sure i can figure something out. The reload seems the most eye catching for sure…

Yeah I'm still feeling it out. My VI seems to move really fast so it's possible mine is a bit sensitive...still too early to make any judgements on that.

my VI gets stuck so I am curious as to "seems to move really fast" means :)

Sorry for the late reply, it def won’t happen in the next 6 months, best case is end of next year if it’s happening.

The problem with the Sense IH is that the wand works too well. If I go ahead with the my version it could easily cost twice as much without too many extra functions apart from the smaller size, adjustable power (wouldn’t get used a lot) and magnet. The proper temp control wouldn’t work with different devices.

I don’t have enough customers or sold devices at this point to make an expensive IH for it, most customers would just buy the much cheaper wand.
I can’t make less than a few thousand of them for it to be worth making.

I’m considering making a cheaper IH instead ( below 125 usd) without proper temp control or just keep the wand for now if most ppl are happy with it as is. TBD after the release

Using the original batteries it can heat up the cap from cold with zirconia balls about 15 times. 18 with glass balls. 2 sets of batteries are plenty in my opinion.

Smaller ones like a triple torch is easier to control in my opinion, but it should work.

Thanks for the reviews everyone, much appreciated!

I’m getting way too many emails about another pre-release drop, so I’m trying to arrange that now for them to arrive before Christmas to the US. No promises though and I’d expect it around the 10th, hopefully with final bowl screens. 50 or 100pcs.
I’ll be looking forward to that drop!

How is Tempest with other balls? Like SiC or rubies?
I've tried it with Boro. I prefer ZIRC. Longer heat cycle, with only marginal longer heat up requirement. Rubies would be similar to ZIRC with shorter cycle. SIC is the one worth experimenting with maybe, as it will have longer cycle than ZIRC, and potentially shorter heat up (I'm told).

We would be getting into potential overkill territory with the heat cycle length, but I would be interested in any reports from avid scientists.

I got some 10mm off ebay that fit ok....talking of screens has anyone else noticed how clean the screens stay in the Tempest, they don't get clogged at all....First vape i have come across like it.
it doesn't stay clean as long as the Dani Fusion or Anvil (which I hardly ever clean)

Yeah I reported the same. I've been quite confused about all the talk about the screens not being good enough.

Hi, I have been pondering asking for a while and I hope this is ok to ask some likely dumb questions. I have never used a TED-type vape but a long time ago I used to smoke weed via a pipe for circa 7 or 8 years, and I think I like the idea of this type of device. Currently I've used Crafty+'s (x2) for 2.5 years but they are getting old battery-wise and I really like the idea of the Tempest, I would like to support a UK designer making some interesting kit, and I need a new vape. But...

1. I have dogs. Am I asking for trouble with one of these? I imagine buying a wand to use with it but have this abject fear of burning them with the vape.
2. Can you 'sync' (manually) a wand and Tempest so the heating stops at the right time? I can be absent minded and can see fire.
3. Would you buy one if you didn't have a table convenient to stick it on when done?
4. How long to they stay really hot for?

Thanks in advance for any tips for an utterly no idea where to start person.

My commentary about it many pages ago was because it has too much flex and can get pushed out of position so by the time I take it apart to clean it is pushed down further. I thought it was due to packing too tight but it still happens with a relatively loose pack.

I'm not sure what, if any, effect there is for the screen to be pushed all the way down but I think it keeps the convection from reaching the bottom edges of the bowl well based on the narrow tube after it with a sharp taper.

The screen has stayed extremely clean though, which stands out every time I empty it.

This is precisely the reason for the screen disclaimer on the beta kits. I’ve had mine in a half setting for the past several days, I tamp the load in tight, and I de bowl on a spike; my screen hasn’t popped or moved once.

But imperfections are going to happen on beta units. The production screen solution will be better, plus I’m sure someone will make a half bowl insert like Sneaky Pete does for Dyna’s.
