I also got a 2-hole version after requesting the 4. :(

Same offer to you, bud. Otherwise, I don't mind waiting until the next batch comes out. Should only be a couple weeks.

I think if I had my choice, I might take the 4 hole as well but my regular Splinter has 2 holes and it seems fine... with or without water.

So, I could probably go either way.

Just FYI, It wouldn't take much to make a tiny leather strap that has holes in it that line up with the holes in the Splinter. Simply twisting the strap can close 1 hole, 2 holes or 3 holes. Or, all 4 can be open. Pretty simple.

I hope I don't get a 'rattler'. Shit like that drives me nutz... LOL

Just started using replay mode with the 250c in the last week.
Didn’t want to comment on it yet since I haven’t used it enough to really recommend it yet.

Sounds like @analytika has been using it much longer and really likes it.

I agree with @analytika there’s more going in with replay other than it reading the resistance change. Going spend more time using replay but I do like it so far.

Would suggest starting around 40-45 Watts with the Z in replay mode.

Seems par for the rbt course? Makes good products but actually isn’t always best. All that said I think I want one of these. I had a milaana and it was ok. And then I bought a 2nd one because I really wanted to like it. But something about it I wasn’t a fan of but I’m digging the box mod form factor but I am a newb with tc and all that. Def wanna give this one a go.

I'm not planning to use mine through water at all, so maybe it's a moot point. I mostly wanted the flexibility of being able to close off extra holes as needed... Maybe I'll check in with RBT about mine too.

For the record, mine also rattles.

Finally got a chance to take the Z for a ride. I have a 2-hole Purpleheart. The color is deep and vibrant and I love it. I am using the silver-fumed mouthpiece that Ryan was gracious enough to include in my order.

I wasn’t asked about high/low flow preference but if I had a choice I would have chosen 2-hole anyway since all my Splinters are 2-hole and I’ve never been a huge open-airflow person(don’t use water or glass really).

I already feel like my 2-hole has plenty of airflow. You guys that got the wrong version might want to just try giving it a pull without power just to check it out, you might be fine with it.

Having owned the Splinter for a bit made it easier to dial in quick.

Screwed onto a dna75 mod and resistance reads .37 ohms.

Started at 25W and was getting nice wispy vapor with a 5 sec preheat, I was actually surprised because I thought it would take more power. Usually run regular Splinter at 23W. To get the big clouds I jacked it up to 30W and it was pumping good vapor but ended up settling at about 28W for my casual use.

I haven’t tried to dial in the TC settings yet but I will soon. Herbie’s escribe settings should help. Will also work on TC settings for a joint pack too.

Some performance differences I’m noticing so far comparing the Z to the Splinter is I feel the Z has more range. With the Splinter I feel like it’s a fine line between low-temp and high-temp, at least in power mode.

With the Z, I feel like I can dial it in to a wider range of vapor profiles. Can really stretch the bowl even with large clouds.

Another thing is I haven’t gotten any hotspotting with the Z. The Splinter can tend to hot spot if technique isn’t just right but I’m getting very even ABV loads with the Z. I think that bigger heater is soaking the whole bowl better in heat.

Haven’t put it through all the paces yet but so far I’m liking the Z. With the short fumed mouthpiece it actually comes out to be shorter than my Splinter with the DDave cooling mouthpiece.

Let the charring begin

Got a bit reckless playing with replay. 55w makes nice clouds, but with roast-o-char taste.

Replay mode at 43w behaves well, get 4-5 draws, stir after 3.

@analytika - thanks! Guess with this C chip, we never need to muck around with firmware and settings and bears, oh my. Hat's off to you, @HerbieVonVapster , for doing the hard work for us, your files still an alternate plug-n-play route. Or is it too good to be true? Am I missing something? Price on these DNA C mods will drop very soon.

So I just did some light testing with my 2-hole Purpleheart on Voopoo A1. I think I'll be perfectly happy with the 2-hole version... as I mentioned before, not interested in running this one through water and the airflow seems sufficient as is.

I'm running it @ 50 watts, 395 degrees, TCR 2150 and am getting some nice, even, coffee color ABV. I may actually be able to lower the TCR value a bit more. Will do some more thorough testing this evening. :science:

I'm liking it so far but won't say anymore until I can put it through the paces.

Where all Learning as we go. Coming from the non c version felt replay was more a tc for people that diddn’t want to set up tc.

Thought that a well set up tc would preform better than replay. Wasn’t till recently I even bothered with it.

Hard to recommend something I wasn’t using. Started looking into replay when ran across some throttling issue that pop up on the dna250c using different themes.

Only been using it for about a week. I can not find much details on how it works or if it works better than a well set up tc. I can say that the more I use it the more i’m liking it. Just haven’t used it enough to comfortably recommend it.

If it works as good or better than my setting that would be great much easier to setup. Just haven’t had the enough personal experience to have decided. I Leaning more towards replay. If it pulling data from more than just a resistance change should be better?

I like to think that even with using replay having a good working tc would only improve on the experience.

Enough on mods and back to the Z. Really inpressed by the flavor of the splinter_Z on top of out preforming my other 510 devices it really one of the cleanest best tasting vaporizers I have used.

With the splinter iheat and stempod it was much more difficult for me to pick the clear winner. Each had there plus and minus. Enjoy them all.

For home use the splinter_Z has become my clear favorite in only 1 day. I really don’t see myself using the splinter and with the open airflow of the Z I can see it also replacing the iheat.

The stempod and lil bud will still hold the travel spots. But for home it really not a question anymore of what’s best in my mind. :)

Hey what's the latest on photo hosting? Haven't had the need for awhile. Imgur still blacklisting FC?
Yeah, imgur is still fucking with us. Bastards even froze my personal account just for inquiring about it.:disgust: Fuck those guys. I've been using postimage and it's ok. ImgBB is another option that's worked ok for me. I see some people happy with tinypic, but they must have better browser filters than I do 'cause the ads on that site just kill me so I refuse to use it.:cuss:

Nice review, @kuzko.

Personally, I wouldn't want to contend with the severity of @VAPEHUNTER's rattling. I would send it back for an adjustment.

@Cheesequake & @superdang9000, that stinks about getting the wrong ones.

Anyway, just paid my invoice for the Z. It's supposed be a 2-hole Birdseye, so hopefully I won't get 4-holes. :p I also followed it up w/ an email asking that Ryan check for rattling as that would drive me nuts.

Yeah. Just seems weird. We've been emailing back and forth the past few days about the vape and now that this happens he tells me to take it to CS. Maybe I'm crazy.

For anything CS related, Stephanie is now coordinating all that & the requests should go through through his website's contact page or send an email to info@rastabuddhatao.com, which is what I would use if I needed to send attachments.

Makes good products but actually isn’t always best.

This is a subjective opinion. My Splinter is right at the top of the list.

I had a milaana and it was ok. And then I bought a 2nd one because I really wanted to like it.

So your 1st Mi assumably was unregulated & your 2nd was the regulated Mi2 so you got to experience both ends of the spectrum?

tinypic, but they must have better browser filters than I do 'cause the ads on that site just kill me

Did you get the Smokey the Bear forest fire ad & redirection? Drove me crazy getting stuck in that loop! What I like about postimage is the you can upload multiple pics at one time not the shitty 1 by 1.

Haha no , i'm using Firefox with NoScript/uBlock/Ghostery/... add-on, i don't have any ads:ninja:

Stream update from yesterday & today:

As I previously posted, POV, HerbCafe, & assumably SneakyPete are gonna be Canadian distributors & George at VF the EU distributor & retailer. VF just placed an order for 200 Zs & either 200 or 400 Splinters. So, I'm sure Ryan's gonna have his plate full for a quite a while until he gets ahead of himself in inventory.

And I saw today that he got a new vape toy -- a Mighty. Seems like he's really enjoying it.

In lieu of a coil here's how Ryan does it when he doesn't want to use butane. He spirals the heater mesh around the glass stem & connects it to that controller box. He found his sweet spot to be 80 watts & I think he initially heated up at 170 watt. What kind of control box is this? The same as a PID controller just in a larger format?

Having a blast with the Z. Rare a vaporizer has inpressed me as quickly as this one has. I own use a lot different vaporizer and can already say that the splinterZ is going become my favorite vaporizer for home regulated use.

Sitting at the beach campsite having cofffee and enjoy my wake and vape. It’s definitely not a chore needing to medicate with the Z today:)
Have to say i’m a happy camper.

I don’t see using it for travel due to glass and size.
Figure this trip the exception more than the normal.
Heading down to the beach later and the Z is not. That’s where having something like the stempod/wismec p80 I feel is better suited.

So here’s my thoughts after 1 day of heavy use with the Z.
The draw resistance vapor quality and effects are everything I want out of a convection vaporizer. Really let’s you experience the flavor of what your vaping. The extraction is top notch the abv is coming out some best I have seen. It easily comparable to the mighty’s abv.

Very easy to clean and maintain. I blow out the spent load when I finish a stem. So not much as been needed.

DNA specific info.

On replay I still haven’t decided if going use it. I like it for something. Others I feel TC mode works better. If you have a C worth checking out.

If you do the same draw over and over it works very well. Maintains a stable temperature as well or maybe even better than in tc mode.

If you vary you draw style is where I find TC mode seems to work better. In replay I noticed if you draw then increase or decrease the speed it doesn’t track as consistent as it does in tc mode for me. Gets more spikes and drops in temperature.

More time testing and needed and would love to hear from other on there thoughts with replay? Or if anyone has links or info on how to works? Are you seeing a steady temperature reading when your varying draw speed. What you feel it does better than tc mode?

I also enjoy the Franks theme with the DNA it what I have based mine on. Even if don’t use my download it’s worth a look if looking for a new theme.

I have to agree so far, and I really meant to stay quiet until I had a few days under the belt but man... It's such an effortless, satisfying experience. I ran mine through the paces last night (I tend to use my vapes more at night to help with insomnia) and the part that stood out to me first is the flavor. Whether it's lower temp, flavorful puffs or bigger rips, it was nice and consistent with the "fluffy" vapor I've grown to enjoy. I loved my Milaana 1.5 but it always imparted a bit of a woody taste to my vapor. Not necessarily a bad thing but sometimes I really want to enjoy the full profile of my homegrown. I'm not getting that at all with the Z, and it truly feels like a great balance between the Milaana and regulated devices. Smoother, tastier, and more consistent, yet still capable of monster rips... which is exactly what I was hoping for in this one.

Same as the Milaana, loading/cleaning/maintenance is super easy. Pairs well with the XL8R, which is a great stem, I just have a hard time recommending it because of its cost.

Anyway, the biggest con so far is just the form factor (although I'm sure there will be more after the honeymoon phase). It honestly looks a bit silly to me, this behemoth strapped to a mod box, with another 3" or so sticking out from the XL8R stem. But, I knew going into it that this would be more of a portable home device than anything and it fits my expectations perfectly.

All that said, this is with the 2-hole version and, although I don't have the 4-hole to compare with, it's hard to imagine it making much of a difference. Except maybe through water.
