RE: "Crafty 2.0"
No one ever presented it as anything other than pure speculation and rumours.

I personally think it would be irresponsible of S&B (from a business perspective) to not accurately read the marketplace and react accordingly.

Some points, that illustrate this well, include:

  • As was stated by @Mr. Me2 and @CRvapes ; there are a plethora of alternatives and direct competitors now.
  • Their biggest rivals (like pax and FF) have released new variants which close the gap (now the new pax 3 with 15second heat up time!).
  • The Crafty is really showing its age with a 1.5-2.8 minute heatup which almost seems prehistoric compared to most new vapes.
  • It is coming up to 2 years (next month) since the crafty and mighty were launched. People's warranties will be out, and when it dies I don't think many people would purchase a new one; They will likely go to a competitor.
  • The Crafty's once unique features (e.g. bluetooth, vibrate, convection) are now becoming the norm, even in cheaper vapes.
  • Problems with batteries on the Crafty must have damaged their reputation to some degree, you don't have to look that far back into this thread to find people losing their minds over multiple returns and cursing S&B. They need to turn the corner on it.
  • Many new vapes include replacable batteries.
Yes agreed S&B have historically been slow movers but It's a much different marketplace since the volcano was launched 10 years ago. There is a new vape being released every month it seems. (Compared to years ago when there was a fraction of the competition, releases and no small startups).

All im saying is it would be irresponsible of them (form a business perspective). You either adapt to the marketplace or eventually become irrelevant.
Look at Nokia who persisted with their Symbian OS and outdated touch interfaces... because they were the dominant market leaders.
Since then they have been written off as a loss and sold off. How many people still have Nokia's?
A reminder of what happens.

Edit: Forgot to mention that their raft of new accessories (reducers, dosing capsules, DC containers) is hopefully a sign they are willing to be more agile, amidst stiffer competition (especially in the portable domain).

Crackberry, anyone?

I agree. I'm a big fan of my Crafty but, due to the abysmally slow heat-up times, it has become a special occasion vape -- where special occasion = ain't nobody around. Because of this, mine will outlast the warranty (next month) and I'll just have to throw the little bastard out when it takes the inevitable long walk off the short pier.

37 hours, baby!

Just my experience, but whole nugs won't vape evenly (in Crafty/Mighty, this is), though after a hit or two can then be crumbled a little and vaped more. Instead just medium grind; too fine will restrict draw and clog c/u screen more quickly. The S&B orange grinder works really well but unfortunately it doesn't tell you when to stop! If earlier you were talking about, like, powdery fine grind, that will be more harsh than usual.

If you do less-than-full chambers, use a pac man top screen or the oil pad as filler. Or seek out the fabled dome screen technique... The material needs be held down (but not packed too tight) so it doesn't swirl around in the chamber.
Surely others have other suggestions/methods, theses are just some thoughts.
The operative part of my message would be to keep trying to get it just right for you, to suit your own needs and use.
But I do prescribe more hours of use, for sure!
I've found the best all-around grind is to use a four piece used straight up so that the size is consistent.

Just got mail from S&B about my RMA - on the good side my crafty is on the way back ( unfortunately they use UPS and I do not have the best opinion about them ) - on the really bad side the message contained this:

> Replacement machine for non-repairable device!

does that mean that if I get yellow/red after the warranty they will not repair also and I have to buy a new device? Would also consider repairing my-self - especially if it is just the battery. But to be honest I am not yet sure that the red and yellow light is caused by the battery ..

For now, it sounds like you are getting a new device. The warranty will run on the schedule of your original device.
If your question is whether you would have to pay for a repair on a faulty unit that's out of warranty, then yes is the answer. You would get a price quote and choice to have them do the repair (which in many cases seems to mean 'replace' anyway) or not. You could then have them return broken one to you so you could fix yourself. But this is speculation; you are getting a new Crafty, that's good news, no?
I don't think red/yellow blinking is a battery problem; some 'faulty unit' code.

@vapviking thats why I was asking once what the real cause for yellow/red is and the only answer I got pointed to the battery ( http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-crafty-by-storz-bickel.15984/page-330#post-1032631 )
I do not have a problem getting a new device now ;-) But if this is really a non-repairable error and I have to spend ~€300 for a new crafty this would be hard.
So did someone already had a yellow/red error after warranty and knows more?
Also again FU UPS! My device was shipped today ( got the repair msg this morning ~10am ) but I will not get it for the weekend ( which suxx as there is a nice dance). Just hope they will not pin a message on the front door again telling all my neighbors that I get a parcel from Storz&Bickel ..

I think the message you got states the machine you sent in under warranty is not repairable so they are sending you a new unit instead. Nothing to be worried about, infact everything to be happy about!

Yea but my warranty ends soon - and as it already happened 2 times in these 2 years I am thinking ahead and want to know If I have to pay for a whole new crafty next year or if there is some repair possible ( either by S&B or by me ) Also not sure if after I got it back I should go soft on the crafty or really hard to try to get it to fail again short before the warranty ends ..

Okay guys, so..

After reading all the thread of Dynavap Vapcap, I have ordered a Ti VonG S 14mm

IMG_20160519_213933702_zpsvfktqbz7.jpg

14mm Left, 18mm Right

And even though I'm not decided yet if I keep the Crafty or not; I've mailed Vaposhop to know if they would take it back, since I'm still in the 30 days refund period.

With the refund, I could upgrade my Herborizer Basic to an XL ( Adj Temp).:myday:

Crafty is a beast, really. Maybe too much :|
A dose that would last hours on Herbo is gone in 10 mins with Crafty. :whoa:
Pretty efficient.

It would be redundant with the Dynavap

Still no response, but I will be sad to quit the Crafty adventure

Ps:
@ligi You should consider to solder heater connections on the new unit, it would prevent poor connections and losses.
in my memories, @Vambo1980 solved the Red/Yellow flash light by bypassing the thermal fuse :hmm:

:peace:

I've soldered the heater element to the board, it doesn't affect warmup time, still 1:30 min ( 20°C -> 180°C)

Can you still return it after modifying it?

That's a big NO.
To get inside Crafty, you have to break a factory seal and if that seal is broken the warranty ends.
So, best to do battery mods only after warranty has expired.

Ain't easy being green
Hi fellas , my 4th Crafty still hits like a champ! 130 hours and I still get 3 sessions out of one charge. One thing I noticed using the little beast is that the main important thing is to keep it clean. The unit itself and the cooling unit!!! I use one CU only 5 to 10 times depending on how sticky the herb is which I put in.

Any noticeable changes?
Not really - the blinking changed a bit - when I plug it in to the charger it is blinking red once before blinking blue. Was a shocker first - thought I got a faulty device.
PS: I emailed with S&B about what happens after warranty. If your crafty is dead you can trade it in for 175€

> we cannot estimate any repair costs.
> If your unit is out of repair we offer customers a new unit for a
> reduced price.
> the trade in price for a new CRAFTY is 175€.

S&B warranty on those two vapes lasts 2 years. Idk what a 'minimum period' for a warranty means...It should start the day you buy/receive product and end after two years.
Sorry you are having trouble, but try the bright side, you might have two shiny new toys pretty soon!

@vapking, What I mean is, within the UK you get a standard 12months guarantee/warranty on such items, and those two fucking pieces of shit didn't even make that! That's what I fucking mean! (btw that rant is not aimed at you, its aimed at S & B!)

I know you mean well, and I respect the intention I honestly and sincerely do, but I live in the now, and right now I've got Jack Shit, in terms of portables! That's not the bright side not by a long stretch!
It's times like this when you realise that Corporations fucking SUCK!!:disgust:

I am just saying:sherlock:
