Zirconium nail

Stumbled across this while looking at quartz domeless nails. Didn't see any other posts relating to zirconium nails. Don't know if great marketing or

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ZIRCONIUM-E...681?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33872a0391

Claiming faster heat up and cool down, non-toxic and able to heat with a regular lighter(no need for large torches). Sounds interesting if it really works like they say.

Can any Science minded folks care to weigh in on whether or not this may be better/worse/same as using titanium. When I think zirconium, I think of jewelry.

Very interesting find indeed.
Especially that it claims "This Nail Heats Easily & Quicker with a standard lighter"
I look forward to hearing more information on this product in the near future.

sorry to be a downer, but i call bullshit. I think this seller is just full of bullshit, think about this
This Nail Heats Easily & Quicker with a standard lighter

*No need for large torches

*Holds Heat Longer - So Less back & forth

To me heating up faster and holding heat longer does not make any sense, as i would expect the thermal characteristics to be roughly the same when cooling or heating. Ex fast heat up, fast cool down vs slow heatup time, long time staying hot.
Does that make sense to ya'll ?

Also it states on the packaging in the picture "cools quicker"
then in the description says "Holds Heat Longer"
Well which one is it? I don't really want a nail that cools quicker anyways to be honest :/.

Really quite strange, does seem like bullshit but i'd love for someone to be a hero and test it out.

The name on the box says "Dr. Kind". I tried to search for more info on DR. Kind, and have come up empty. Doesn't appear to make/have name on any other products that I could find.
My guess is, if zirconium is any good for this, some other companies will start to use it in their nails as well.

If anybody tries it, please post back.
If I get some spare $$, I may try it just to see if I can get a hit off the nail before it cools down on me, lol.

Yeah i couldn't find anything on this "Dr Kind" fellow myself. I also took the liberty of contacting the seller for more information, i'll let you guys know if he responds.

Hasnt everyone heard that titanium is so 2000 late?

There's bullshit marketing with every product, I could care less what they say and its obviously wrong. Thats an impossible mix of thermal characteristics. However this is the largely unregulated marijuana market, producers of accessories like this can say whatever they want and get away with it. Using zinc is just an attempt at product differentiation and Dr. Kind (if that is his real name) is making you pay BIG for it.

I only care about its safety, performance, and longevity - not the product's claims.

Edit: whenever I call I get a recording saying the number isn't in service

The ebay seller is a headshop in NY. Their Website
Their number is 845-294-3388. What intrepid sleuth will call and inquire?

Oh, ya, that is mariposa. I saw some others bought their domeless quartz nails in the concentrate accessory thread. I was researching the same domeless quartz nails when I stumbled upon the Zirconium nail. Without reading that whole thread, these Mariposa folks seem legit according to other well regarded members who have used them. Well, at least for the domeless quartz nail, they said for the money it was a decent buy.
I am ordering 2 of the domeless quartz nails for cheaper than 1 nail from ALT, just based on the FC members liking them.

I found that domeless mariposas nail and purchased it first; they're a legit seller I would buy from them again. Don't know about this nail though...

It isn't the most functional domeless.nail but for the price its hard to beat. I don't use mine anymore though

I mean they are friendly, and prompt shippers etc., so in that sense they are legit sellers. But if you look at their merch it's mostly typical lhs junk.
I don't use the quartz domeless I bought from them either, whatever it costs it isn't really a good design.

I almost bought one and then hesitated. How come you don't like the function of the quartz domeless?

I don't expect an ebay seller to sell high quality glass. And that's hardly true, most of their inventory is glass accessories. Tradtional domes and glass on glass adapters are no more or less functional from mariposas than anywhere else... same with the vials, clips, parts, etc. which make up most of their inventory. Where else can you get glass adapters and domes for under $10 shipped?

The outside is higher than the inner tube making it hard the heat the "inside" of the nail, the torch will get snuffed when directing it into the center of the dome and the bottom of the dome usually doesn't get hot enough resulting in your dab running down and pooling without vaporizing. If you overheat it and burn the dab it works great, but nobody likes that taste. Occasionally I can get good dabs out of it but I mainly keep it for emergencies only.

Yeah some of their inexpensive items are just fine. This also true of every Chinese wholesale outfit out there, (where they get their merch from, primarily). That's what their business is, no shame in that.

Anyone believe their "educated" nail is really grade 2?
Anyone lining up to by one their viva la vapes?
A coke bullet perhaps?

Just to add, the outer wall is touching the center downstem, they connect to form a v-shaped channel that the oil cannot possibly spread out enough in. Your options are, microscopic dabs, oil left to pool and cool on the nail, or burning the shit out of it like z9 was sayin.

not a scientist by any mean just did some basic research right now, i'm always interested in new types of nails being produced.

seems zirconium 91.224 has a specific heat of bout 28.05 J/mol*K (source). for comparison titanium has specific heat of 26.37 (source). so "heats quicker" doesnt make sense to me.

as for toxcity i just checked wiki and it says "inhalation of zirconium compounds can cause skin and lung granulomas" but its melting point is 3371 F so im assuming it never gets hot enough that it might cause any problems. probably gunna chill on this until someone else tries it, doesnt look like anything to get excited about

edit: idk some of this just seems like filler talk says nail is superior "Heating Quicker, Heating up faster and Never changing in Structure over time" like what? being able to heat with normal lighter is interesting... but how would you even go about doing that? just hold it next to the nail? really would have to see it
