What size Grind do you like for each Vape?

I just upgraded my grinder (Brilliant Cut Grinder) with all three size grinder plates. I am enjoying the grinder and the freedom of more than one size grind.
But it is also throwing me into a testing frenzy. Argh. I have four strains, three different size grinds and way too many vapes!! This is going to take a while. Please save me from myself and let me know if you have found a favorite size grind for specific vapors

My findings thus far (very preliminary, I have only tested a few times)
Vapcap: I have found that using a fine grind with the Vapcap gives me a denser high. However, with a coarse grind, it is exceptionally tasty. I think I will stick with coarse going forward.

Crafty: I used a fine grind in my Crafty (with the concentrate pad,on top) and holy cow.... I haven’t gotten that high from it in ages!


Anyone care to weigh in on their own findings?

How's the brilliant cut treating you so far? I have a SCS and a GR8TR with two middle parts that combined probably give me similar options.

I also like the denser hits of a fine grind with my vapcaps. However, I've learned that what I really like is for my stuff to be dried out.

For that reason I'm reluctant to fine grind much since I'm generally grinding for the future with who knows what vape and the medium is more flexible.

This is especially true now that I've been spoiled by the excellent performance from my Splinter and Splinter Z. I prefer medium with those just to keep the Splinters tidy over time so I've been using the SCS almost exclusively since I got the DNA mod dialed in.

I'd have to test this but I think medium also lends itself to the kind of airflow I want with all my convection portables.

So far, I am loving it. But as I mentioned in OP, it is causing me to vape far more than I should because I want to test out every size with every strain with every Vape. I am taking a couple of days off to rein myself in a bit!

A fine grind generally gets the best extraction with anything I’m aware of because there’s more surface area exposed, but if you get it *too* fine (to the point where it settles into almost a solid block) it can be hard to pull air through evenly. This was briefly a problem for me when I got my first VapCap and I was still always using a very fine grinder.

For the VapCap now I use a medium-fine grind most of the time and that or finer in the FlowerPot or Ascent.

I’m not sure I’ve noticed as much difference in taste with different grinds as some people do...I think how long it’s been sitting around after being ground might change the taste more, but I might as well do some more testing to see if I change my mind!

My brain tells me that the less I cut and manipulate the flowers-> the more taste I get , that is why if I use vapes nano, brick, Milaana) use my Chewy grinder !is my favorite is the most similar to use of scissors ,
I will take charge of shake the load and reducing its size while vaping

If I want a more uniform grind or I'm going to use my mighty or vapcap then I turn to thick plate of my kannastor GR8TR

With my Kannastor jar GR8TR I received two plates one fine and one thick,the plate coarse; I would say that is medium size ... a while ago I published a photo that might provide more information

General principle #1
Conduction vapes work best with a fine grind packed slightly to increase the contact in the load so that heat is transmitted evenly throughout the load. Higher temps produce thicker clouds, quicker extraction of cannabinoids, and taste degrades more quickly.

General principle #2
A medim grind works best in convection vapes without packing the load. It is heated by pulling hot air through the load, so lots of little air spaces produce better and quicker extraction. Stirring may be requied.

Your mileage may vary.

I should try a side-by-side comparison of the same amount of a medium and fine grind in the (convection) FlowerPot if I can take it back to back, but so far I feel like even if the air can get through a medium grind easier, the extra exposed surface area on a medium-fine or fine grind allows greater extraction per draw.

It’s possible there’s less difference than I think and that it’s more the extra finely ground flower that fits in the same space making it seem like it extracts faster, but if you think about the extra surface area necessarily exposed by the extra cuts that make it a fine grind, it’s clearly at least possible to extract it faster.

I suppose if it’s too packed together though, it could take longer, but my guess is it would be a more complete extraction in the end (as long as it’s stirred).

Anyone who’s done fairly controlled testing on this, please let us know what you found!

IME the GR8TR fine plate is very prone to clogging. Instead I use the coarse plate and keep the grinder upside down to get a finer grind for my conduction vapes (Omnivap, Fury 2).

I lean toward medium grind, but I just got a new vape, and will try fine to see if it works better.

You are absolutely right but not every vape can deal with unground nugs.

When I want the thickest possible hits from my convection vapes, I go for a fine grind, but this can often lead to necessary stirring. Totally worth it though.

Coarse grinds are good when you just don't quite give enough fucks to grind further.

Fine grind for conduction vapes as long as the screen holes permit it.

Medium-Fine for hybrid vapes. Fine enough that every bit of herb is touched by the conduction, but not too fine to where the air still passes through smoothly.

Grinds are dope. I have 2 grinders, one that grinds pretty fine, and the Haze grinder which is pretty coarse. I can grind upside down or straight through to adjust how fine/coarse either of these grinders actually grind.

I've gone through several grinders but right now tend to use the scs more. How do you get yours "fluffy".

I think 'fluffy' is a function of moisture content. When I grind herb that's been stored with a boost pack it's much fluffier than herb that's dryer. I was on a kick to find a fine grind that worked well with a log - but I actually think starting with a medium coarse grind is better. This allows for great airflow through the load on the first hit that removes most of the moisture from the load. A quick stir breaks down what's left into much smaller pieces and the second pull caches the load completely without it packing down too hard - a problem I discovered starting with a fine grind. The SCS has been my go-to for a long time - but that BCG has some promising qualities (including a coarse plate).

I am lazy and cheap and so I have a generic metal grinder that I think is medium, a MF finishing grinder and some bandage scissors. The LB gets the finishing grinder and everything else gets the alleged medium grinder or the scissors treatment. Depending of course, on what is going into the vape, what I want out of the fill up and how lazy I am feeling.

I use an old nut grinder. I remember using it to grind nuts for Christmas cookies with my mom when I was a kid. It gives a nice shred to my flowers. I've given away all my other grinders.
