Oh you need to unscrew that cooling unit completely eh? I didn’t know you had to do that.

It gets pretty dirty in there, otherwise you can't get everything out? Yeah you don't need to soak for a long, shake, rinse, take apart, q-tip scrub, etc... simpler when you don't use the cooling unit and get alternative stems

Shit Snacks,
I thought he was referring to the inner liner that you pop out after unscrewing the inner ring under the battery cover, not the oem stem itself. Oops (?)

On edit: now that I abandoned the dosing caps, my other stems get wrecked pretty fast, too.

There are a lot of fancy glass options out there that can be pricey. However, one option that is available which comes from sneakyP. I use this guy everyday as my main stem and it's only $27. So much better than those stock stems with the cooling do-dads IMHO, and cools very well. My fancier stuff sits in the drawer.

Fair enough. I thought I could get away with just soaking it all in one piece. Knowing my luck I’ll lose a nut or washer.

Might just start using my ball stem instead. Looks like less of a chore to clean. But I do like the short stem and how it feels.

Guess tonight I’ll gonna rip the ball stem then.

When I was still using the OG short stem with the SS nuts & bolts, I had NO issues putting the C.U. in a small sealed container with 99% ISO or 190 ethanol. Let it soak for a hour or so, shake it now and then. Rinse with water, and either air dry, or air compressor. Used backup CU while soaking 1st one.
100% clean!

Yea I agree, don't need to take apart. Maybe the orings. I used to only unscrew it a little, so the nuts and washers are loose when shaking in iso. Almost always clean after this

Yeah. I think I’m sticking with the OG mouthpiece for now. Used the short glass beaded one that comes with the TM. And gotta say inserting it, it feels a little loose. And the flavour isn’t as good. I have a weird flavour with that mouthpiece. I think I’m gonna be the OG from now on. I’ll give a few more bowls but not liking it too much. Find it a tad too long as well.

Just as an FYI... that's not exclusive to SP. I know VGoodiez has it (got mine in a TM 'kit'), and I think others have that stem as well. About the same price, too (they sell it separately, as well as in their 'kit').

As it turns out, that is my least favorite of the 'usual' stems, for reasons of both cleaning difficulty and fragility (my first arrived broken, right at the mouthpiece 'neckdown' / reducer). One of these days, I'll spring for another stem (how can I not, with VAS?)

They are not all the same though, some have actual beads with holes through them, which are bad for this, but they are pretty much all made in China and some very thin low quality, though some are better at least

Yes, they are not all the same and some are made of shitty glass. You have to be careful where you get them from. SP sells a quality one and no doubt VG does too. I never thought I would like it. It does stick out a bit and looks silly, but it cools fairly well for a dry attachment and is easy to load and use. I fill it with warm iso and it cleans out well for having lots of nooks and crannies.

My main attachment was a 18mm wpa and a OGB jhook, but this thing was just so easy to grab and use. YMMV.

Meh. I may be in the minority. It’s subjective and aesthetics for the most part. I love the original and wood versions, that’s me. Curious about a potential zirc stem as I don’t have any metal stem for either of my TMs. It did come with a titanium stem in one version which I didn’t get; my PH TM2 came with stock and longer stems with quartz balls and the glass tapered mouthpieces which I love. They’re still packed from my move, gotta get them out soon.

I soak my stem orings along with the cooling unit. I take it all apart, however I stopped using the nuts & washers in the CUs a few years ago as they were a pain to take apart and potentially losing them. I struck a happy balance using a hollow CU to allow for some cooling and to ease frequent cleaning. I’m still a big native TM user. Old habits die hard.

Well this is dope. The flowerMate v5 nano battery works in the TM 2. This battery is a 3.7v 2500mah 20amp battery. I knew I shouldn’t have thrown out that battery. Now I have a spare. Curious on the brand of battery this is. But hell. I’m happy!!!!

The battery from FlowerMate is wrapped with the specs and the branding of flowermate

That means it’s been rewrapped.
Unfortunately, the only way to potentially find the actual battery brand and model is to cut off the plastic wrap.
That information is usually etched or printed directly on the batteries metal casing. You can then rewrap the battery with a new heatshrink wrapper.

Without knowing the actual battery make and model, you just can’t be 100% sure what it is.
Some cheap knockoffs, may not have any information on the metal cylinder, those I bring to my recycling center.
The top of the line MOLICEL 18650’s are inexpensive enough, to not bother with mystery rewraps.

Just pulled the wrapping off the battery. Does not say the brand. Just has a bunch of numbers;

H5IY
NM7A1
T4C8
W22

No brand, not a good sign. Doing a google search on “18650 battery code H5IY”:

Ai RESULTS:
“If you have an 18650 battery with the code "H5IY", this code likely indicates the battery's manufacturing date, especially for certain brands like Samsung
.
For example, according to KinStar Battery, on Samsung 18650 batteries, a code like this can be deciphered as follows:
  • The first letter, "H", indicates the year of production. For Samsung, "H" would correspond to 2017.
  • The second digit, "5", represents the month (May).
  • The third digit or letter, "I", may represent a specific week within that month, but more specific information is needed to confirm this.
  • The final letter or number, "Y", might relate to internal production identification or a factory code.
This code suggests that your battery was manufactured in May 2017. “

I doubt your battery is 8 years old, so not knowing what the brand is, hard to know if the codes apply.
You could try more searches with the other codes you listed if you want.

I’ll stick with my Molicels.

Well that’s generic advice, certainly don’t do “tricks”, whatever that might be. But I’ve learned what I know, by experimenting. I’ve cut off many a wrapper of suspect batteries, and was glad I did. Rewrapping them is easy, unknown ones, go to the recycling place. I do agree, buy known brands, from trusted vendors, so you can be confident you are getting what you paid for.

well without knowing the max discharge rating of the cell, your only way to know if it is being pushed beyond its limits is if it heats up a bunch during discharge. but since the entire tm2 unit heats up I doubt a person could distinguish. if it was me i'd spend the $4 on a p30b from a trusted supplier (the trusted supplier part is a big deal). Or better yet if you can swing it get 4 of them and be set for years.

My usual source is liionwholesale.com, but imrbatteries.com is selling the p30b for $4 each:

Also, please note that if you have unwrapped the cell, it is no longer safe to use until you wrap it again. short circuits and all that. If you plan to rewrap it save the little black plastic disk that came off the positive end when you unwrapped it. its an insulator that goes on the positive side between the cell and the wrap. If you lose it you would want new ones of those too.

I had no idea what that disc was but I still have it. Did not know they needed to stay wrapped. So this battery im just gonna huck and run my solo battery for now before buying some more. Thanks for that advice though. I would have not known.
