This is the latest in my teardown series, following the Venty and Solo 3. Today, I’m diving into the Tinymight 2, a Finnish-made, $350 on-demand vaporizer that’s considered to be the best in the category. Let’s see what makes this device tick.

I also released this as a video on YouTube channel and a blog post on my website.

Teardown Process:
  1. Removed all attachments: mouthpiece, battery cover, battery, oven tool, and airpath ring.
  2. Opened the visible screw at the bottom, which secures the top cover.
  3. After some fiddling, I removed the cover, revealing the inner workings.
  4. Exposed the heating element and electronics by removing the bottom cover from the walnut body.

Heating Element:

The Tinymight 2 uses a spiral of thin sheet metal for its heating element. Air passes through this spiral, maximizing surface area for efficient heating. This is the core of the Tinymight 2’s powerful convection performance.

Vapor Path:

The vapor path is a series of glass cylinders and metal screens surrounding the heating element. The herb sits in the stem, getting heated purely by hot air (no direct contact). This setup is all about pure convection, making for a clean, flavorful vapor.

TM2 vs. Venty & Solo 3:
  • Venty: The heating element wraps around the bottom of the bowl, using mostly convection for extraction.
  • Solo 3: A ceramic heating element wraps the bowl but doesn’t touch it, heating the surrounding air.
  • Tinymight 2: Offers the most powerful convection heating, with a focus on heating the air efficiently before it reaches the herb.

PEEK vs. Glass Airpath:
  • Venty & Solo 3: Use PEEK, a durable thermoplastic, for their airpaths.
  • Tinymight 2: Uses glass and ceramic for a purer, albeit more fragile, airpath.
Tinymight recently upgraded the fragile glass components to zirconia ceramic in the new “Purple Heart” version, addressing durability concerns.

On the original TM, you could take a square of toilet paper and wipe it around the metal/oring where the glass stem is inserted and get gray dust on it. On the TM2, does this still happen?

I tried that just now and was surprised to see a little residue on the paper.
Looked like "grey dust" with the naked eye. :o

Put a light and a magnifying glass on it and could clearly see it is actually green (brownish) and not grey, i'm actually 100% sure it's just plant material, which makes sense:
small bits of ABV dust probably come off when removing/inserting the stem (from friction when it passes the o-ring) and over time some ABV-particles get caught on the ring.

Also: no idea what else it could be tbh, the glass stem only touches the oring when inserting/removing so hard to see what other dust could be "created" there.

I'm pretty sure I got the gray color after I cleaned everything up. I dont' use the tm anymore but that was my main problem with it, and was hoping the tm2 fixed that issue.

What do you mean "after you cleaned up"?
So you clean it and then you wipe it and it came out grey?
Well, that's strange...
And what do you think it was?

I checked all of my TM2's and they were clean, all that came off was a little ABV dust. Which makes sense: i straw load my stems mostly, sometimes dipping them in my weed so there's little bits on the outside or on the rim sometimes.

Again: i don't see what else could cause any dust at that spot?
What was your theory about the cause?

TM1&2 heater seems like a car cigar lighter and is prone to getting abv debris on top of it falling down from the bowl. It may be irrelevant to many of you, but for me you are basically vaping weed and also smoking debris particles fallen on top of the heater. Unless it is kept upside down all the time.

I'm sorry but that is really not the case.
I use mine native most of the time. There's no "smoke" (ever) because there's no particles reaching the heater.
There's a screen to keep bits out and under that screen there's the heater screen.
I clean the metal insert quite often and on all my devices the heater screen under that insert is spotless, so nothing goes thru...

I mean, the tm2 is a flavour machine, no way it would have that many flavour chasers amongst it's fans if it was burning weed/creating smoke.
So many people rave about the tasty vapor it delivers...You're saying all these people are smoking debris without tasting the smoke/the combustion?
Come'on, that's really ridiculous imo.

I think the grey is oxidized aluminium, if you wipe it off it will eventually come back. The aluminum would have to be treated or another material would have to be used.

Crazy how similar even the heaters are between this and the Nomads.

Yes except nomad toad have a much smaller heater, that is made out of nichrome, smaller bowls too I guess that match lol but but that is exactly why I prefer TM so much more in a direct comparison, more power and versatility for me with much more control thanks to the regulation and full temp range dial (I also like the stem o-ring system much better really all around)

I mean it is a ribbon coil shape, so it has that same look? I don't see what that matters or has to do with anything though... And yes this is why with all my stem-based pure convection on demand vapes, I developed the habit of loading upside down, taking the first hit upside down, to fully seat the load, you can test it shaking it and nothing comes out etc. However these days I do prefer to just use them all upside down if I can, depending on the device, TM I really like using with hooks and U-turn stems for this reason and they also offer the coolest hits with the best flavor retention in my experience...

Yes there have been tear downs of used vapes and other settings that are full of AVB dust on the inside, even ones with screens, so it depends on how they are being used and cared for more than anything else more than anything else

The heater is below the chamber in virtually every vape I've ever seen. Nothing keeps debris from falling through the air holes of the Solo, Fury (clones), etc. Is it being able to see it that you don't like? Out of sight out of mind?

The great thing about the TM is the ribbon heater, it has orders of magnitude more surface area than most vape coils which allows for much greater heat transport to a fast air stream, with a lower coil temperature and inherently better temp regulation. It's not a problem, it's the design other manufacturers need to move towards. A TM might be less likely to burn material because the coil is cooler than the much smaller coils in other vapes. To heat moving air to 400 F with a small coil it must be significantly hotter than 400 F. A TM without the ribbon coil would be like a Ferrari with a Kia engine.

I find no evidence or sensation of material burning on the heater, although there must be some trace dust or powdered flower present, the taste in the TM is better than most vapes.

awesome breakdown!

I can appreciate the durability of the zirconia, how does it compare to glass with regards to taste?
Also curious if the zirconia might also be an available option to those repairing glass breakage.

Here you can see the zirconia on PH

Some prefer glass, others don't care. I don't really find any difference, although the steam from the PH seems softer to me, but this may also be due to different temperatures despite the same setting. I can't really help there.

No, actually, you can't see zirconia in this picture.
You are looking at the "new stainless lining on top of the heater" that replaces the glass sleeve on the TM2.
That is NOT the Zirconia ceramic. That part is sitting below what you are looking at in your picture.
It's a white material, that surrounds the heater, usually glass but Zirconia in the PH.

From TM website (the red text describes what we see in your picture, the blue text is about the zirconia part):
  • Improved button design
  • New heater construction replaces glass with zirconia ceramic, and has strengthened ceramic rods
  • Stainless steel lining on top of heater instead of glass
  • High quality mateterials: Stainless steel, aluminum, quartz g
So actually, if i'm not mistaken there is no glass in the PH (except the stem). 2 metal sleeves above the heater and one zirconia sleeve around the heater.

Uh, you're right, I looked at my newer Walnut to see it also. Thanks for the correction.

So, the first time i really think about it. You're right, on the PH there's no glass (in the unit). So now i must think about it, my TM2 Walnut has both glass, my other TM2 Walnut has glass and steel, my TM2 PH zirconia and steel. Could one be really better than the others?

I don't know what it is. Maybe it is the herb powder, but I was thinking it was the glass stem was rubbing on the side somehow? It never made sense but it would come up gray on the white tissue paper. I was always thinking it was aluminum powder, bc I noticed that the tm had an extra harshness to it when in use, and why I stopped using it. I would think if it were flower powder, it wouldn't add any harshness, and would be black/brown. I did never us any magnifying glass to zoom in on it. I mentioned this to the TM guy through email but he didn't ever reply to that aspect, though I know english isn't their strong point so I never really pushed the issue. I know the aluminum parts move around and rub on each other, which is why I was thinking it was some powder coming from it. I really hope it isn't though. It is the main reason I'm not even really considering the TM2, along with my fusion just about killing my vas.

If it was an early version of TM1, the tube holding down the screen on top of heater was made of aluminum. (under the tube holder o-ring).
It is possible that if the stem is inserted at an angle, it could make contact with that tube and in time the small friction could create the color you saw in the paper when swiping parts. Quite quickly after feedback, that tube was changed to stainless steel in TM1, and we still have these spare parts for it available.

Yeah I definitely had the original TM and the tube is aluminum. I never knew that there was an upgrade of it to stainless. I'm sure that would solve the problem. Thanks for addressing this and making the necessary changes.
