Does anyone know how to make sense of a few new "Mendelian randomization" studies linking cannabis use to lung cancer? Ive read both studies but its pretty stat oriented. I think the nature genetics article wasnt able to separate the risk from tobacco but Im not sure.

Multi-ancestry genome-wide association study of cannabis use disorder yields insight into disease biology and public health implications - Nature Genetics
Multi-ancestry genome-wide association meta-analyses identify risk loci for cannabis use disorder. Genomic structural equation modeling and genetic correlation analyses show overlap with several other traits, including impulsivity and psychopathology.

Cannabis Use, Pulmonary Function, and Lung Cancer Susceptibility: A Mendelian Randomization Study - PubMed
The findings of this MR analysis suggest evidence for a potential causal association between genetic liability for cannabis use and the risk of squamous cell carcinoma. Triangulating MR and observational studies and addressing orthogonal sources of bias are necessary to confirm this finding.
