How many bowls/loads do you tend to get out of 1g of concentrates?

Lately I've been using concentrates more than I used to. I was watching Troy and Jerry "think dank" and if I recall correctly, they said they get about 4-5 "loads" per g of concentrate. I'm finding I get 15-20 or so, per g.

I'm assuming that means I must be doing what many folks would consider "tiny dabs". Which is fine by me. I use concentrates lately because I'm finding better quality "trates" for low prices in the legal market than the quality of herb I can get for low prices in the legal market. Not because of a high tolerance.

I'm wondering if most people do dabs because they need more THC per hit to really feel it, or if there area lot of others like me that have other reasons, and therefore don't use as big of dabs. I have put a 5mm and a 3mm terp pearl in the Pockety chamber and I'd say on average, the dab size I usually put in is never bigger than the 5mm pearl, and is usually as small or a bit smaller than the 3mm one.

I have yet to pay more than $30 for a 1g of concentrate, so I figure each bowl is costing me about $2 or less since I have found some I like for around $15 per g. It dawned on me that if people are buying more expensive stuff, and using much larger globs, then some people are probably spending about $5-$10 per "dab". That seems crazy expensive to me, especially since I assume people doing that are probably also dabbing more times per day than I do as well.

Currently I'm probably (tiny)dabbing in the pockety 4-5 times a day and a handful of dry herb vaping sessions per day as well. And usually 10-20mg of THC via edibles per day. I am guessing that's more than most "non-heavy" users, but probably way less than most people on this forum.

Yeah I take more tiny dabs, grams last a long time and I have a wide variety now, seems wasteful when I see the size of others sometimes with videos etc, but it's all relative of course so to each their own!

Something around the size of a BB or a grain of rice is usually 0.04-0.05, which works out to be about 20-25 dabs per gram.

I have an honest question about concentrates, I only got my hands on my own grown herbs or maybe kief from the grinder.

Does it burn and gets wasted with high temperature? what is the percent of conversion of material to vapor and how much is lost in smoke?

I get ~10-15 loads, so <.1g. Anything bigger induces a lung burning buzz killing coughing spat for me. Also the super terp heavy flavors get to be a little too much.

I am finding better consistency (quality and pricing) with concentrates. I figure it is just easier for businesses to deal with them.

I picked up a super cheap (on aliexpress) screw on hot knife thing that goes with a pen battery I already had for carts. I just do it by eye, but compare the amount to the 3mm and 4mm terp pearls I have in the pockety. I usualy keep it somewhere between the 2 sizes, and at least never bigger than than the bigger pearl or I'll probably regret it. LOL

Assuming the concentrate is ~85% THC, then the math isn't too hard (I think). 850mg of THC in your gram, so 15 hits is 56.7mg/hit, which is a pretty hefty dose. 20 dabs is 42.5mg, still hefty (for me at least). I think this is right.

Take a nice 25% THC strain of bud. 250mg of THC in the gram, so .1g dose would be 25mg of THC (less if vaped)

Most concentrates I've been getting (the lower priced ones) have been 65% to 72%.

I have no idea what percentage of THC gets absorbed when doing dabs in the Pockety, but according to wickepedia, dabbing in general is about 30% - 60%, and dry herb vaping about 30%-40% (combustion it says around 20%). I would guess that I'm probably absorbing somewhere between 15mg to 30mg per dose the way I have been doing it. Which is probably pretty close to the amount of THC I'm getting when I vape dry herb each session.

Assuming I have something nice and soft instead of something like wax or crumble I usually use a dabber with a pointy tip and insert the tip maybe 1mm into the top of the concentrate blob and then gently drag the tip of the dabber a few mm through the concentrate to scoop some up on the tip, kind of like scooping ice cream but with a blade and only a tiny amount. Took a little practice to get down but when I mess up I usually don't end up with a wasteful amount and just dab it anyway instead of trying to remove some (big mistake imo, I always wind up with too little doing this...). With the harder concentrates you can break them up, lick the tip of the dabber with a flame (assuming it's got some oil on it from the last dab...) and then just gently touch what you want to pick up with the tip.

I measure the same way as @2tiki, by eye, I like the elcheapo hot knives too (I also have the Puffco version). It is easy to measure if you want. Just put the hot knife on a scale, zero/tare, add a dab to the hot knife then re-weigh.

I know people that freeze their concentrates on a non stick sheet > roll it into a worm > measure > cut doses for consistency

I typically do tiny dabs, like enough that when I heat my hot knife gravity won’t drop it down it will just spread out on the hot knife if I don’t bring the hot knife down onto the bottom of the atomizer to let it flow off. I dab because I think it’s overall a better experience than dry herb vaping, if anything I go out of my way to find lower THC concentrates such as ones with CBD isolate to make light dosing easier.

Try wiping the concentrate to the tip of the hot knife (I use silicone containers so very easy to get the concentrate right to the tip) before hitting the button so it falls off easily instead of vaping on the blade.
