Help with a “log vape”

Hello everyone, I would like if anyone can give me some tips to solve a small problem.

After almost a year with my loved sticky brick runt, I thought to copy his vaping system ( flame intake, channels, bowl, ecc ) and applying it to an olive logwood.
So wich is the problem? How to make perfect aligned holes on both sides.
that holes will be for the magnets. If the log was a Parallelepiped, It would have been easy to keep the two pieces aligned to mark the center of the hole. But mine has an irregular shape,it’s not a perfect ciylinder. How can i precisely mark the holes?
Will a photo so you can easily understand what I’m talking about.

wait... you just want a sbl device into this form of wood? why? what will it give you? the sbl form is great

just remember please - you don't want the glass intake away from your face/control. there's a reason sbl looks how it looks...

Yes I’m trying to apply the sbl vaping system to a pipe of olive wood.. just for fun man😁
The glass intake is not away from my face/control… dimensions are like an hammer by tinystems.. his works made my want to try woodworking

I would suggest looking further into the DIY section, people have done this, it's not called a log vape though, that is something else! (This would be like direct torch connection) Good luck

yeah it's not a log vape by definition, it's more like... SBL the risky version? kind of? like, what happens if the herb screen is not placed 100% right? you may inhale all the herb into your lungs.... :sherlock:

Here is what I would do :
- Drill the airpath hole
- Cut (you want a pretty thin saw if you want to have a nice joint between the two cut pieces, if you have one, a japanese saw is perfect).
- Then I would put a paper on the surface area of the cut on one of the two pieces.
- I would use a pen to mark the center of the holes for the magnets, and cut the piece of paper so it's exactly the same shape than the cut surface.
- I would then photocopy that piece of paper, and transfer the holes marks from one side of the paper to the other side (you can use light under a flat glass to see your marks through the paper).
- Then you can glue your two pieces of paper on your respective two pieces of wood with spray adhesive for paper.

(Alternatively, you can skip the photocopy and glue part and just transfer the holes marks on the paper piece and poke your holes marks on the wood with the help of both sides of the single paper piece on the two wood pieces.)

Obviously to drill the holes you'll want to be perpendicular to the cut surface, vices could be helpfull.

Make your hole for the herb bowl and vapor path, saw the block through with a japanese saw, drill a hole into the bottom piece where your magnet goes, drill it 4mm deep and 6mm wide, get magnets in round disc 6mm size and a ball bearing in 6mm, or a strong bead in 6mm.

Put a cilinder the diameter of your vapor path (drill?) in the center hole of the bottom piece that will align your top and bottom piece, and the ball bead or bearing into the 6mm hole. Now slide the top piece down the cilinder and align the pieces neatly with the ball bearing in between. When you're sure of the correct positioning, push down firmly on the top piece right above where the ball bearing is.

Remove top piece and discover your ball marking, carefully drill on the spot, remove ball bearing and cilinder from bottom piece, and voila.

Some epoxy glue and a couple scratches on your magnets and you're good to glue.

So, not that this is a log vape.....

But what actually does constitute a "log vape"... ?

Is it the simple fact that there's wood surrounding the heating element to provide some level of protection, retention, faster re-heats and a more pleasant aesthethic? or are there other specifics that need to be met?

Like, the only reason I didn't call my build a log vape is because I really don't know what consitutes one, but it'll have wood surrounding the "heat injector" too.

Feeling slightly confused. The world seems to move at an ever faster pace the older you get 👴

Traditionally it also entailed using the classic steel ceramic cartridge heater for the resistance in the core, that is running off of wall power, so aside from the simple wood cylinder shell, that is traditionally what makes a log vape a log vape... There are plenty of other vapes that are using wood shells, sometimes we refer to them like log vapes in description, but since the heating elements are different the classification is also different... Does that make sense? Another classic feature is how they use separate stem tube for the chamber and pathway (although now there are some that use ground glass connections or injector style bowls those are less traditional log vapes though they might use the same heater core which would make them more of a traditional log vape) even someone like Alan has so much variation in log styles and heaters, plus chambers and pathways, with his heat islands, toasty tops, GTRs, etc.

Oh. That makes sense I guess. Considering all that I'd say the Cherubi TiTi falls into the non-conventional log vape category then, being not heated by a ceramic heater cartridge, if all goes well that is.

BTW, is that list what you currently have in your vape stash?

I think I could buy my new kitchen AND bathroom with the amount that must of cost :uhoh::drool::clap::rockon:

Haha yes, and it is not even comprehensive, since there are multiples of some... Plus it does not list all the accessories and glass I have accumulated as well, I'm sure the cost adds up, I don't own a house though and that feels impossible to ever happen for me :lmao:

Oh I know how that feels. I feel extremely lucky with my wife, she comes from a good family but my own background ain't that pretty and my personal health challenges don't exactly cater to the dream of home ownership either. And owning a home does also mean we also get to own a very hefty bill to pay for all the materials and work that goes into renovating a home. Not to say that my wife never had troubles, just not financial troubles.

Honestly half the names on that list I've never even heard of. I'm in Europe though, I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. IMPcognito? I love a good name!

Yeah and to be clear I don't have any financial troubles, but I also don't have much of a career or any family of my own living in a big city that is expensive... No debt but yeah I don't really want it haha probably possible to own a home it just doesn't seem realistic or purposeful for me yet I mean

Understandably so. My best friend is like that as well. Home ownership isn't for everyone and that's fine.

It has always been a dream for me personally and I'm happy to be here, but I'm also strained in many ways, that too is fine.

Life is good when contentment with one's situation is within one's reach.
