Firewood? Tinymight? Other? Nothing of the sort?

Hi nice people, it has been a minute…

Long story -vaguely- short: I started vaping with an Omni, then a Vapman, and always had big reticence toward electronic vapes, so I used these two for years. I started to acknowledge the nicety of being able to vape while hiking, walking the dog, etc. and caved and I impulse-bought a Pax Plus last spring.
I’ll keep it short. I know it has not a stellar reputation, but I quite like it. Design is just brilliant, form factor is unbeatable, and performance… let say it is enough for my needs.

I have stupidly lost it. And now I am considering a new portable vape.

To be blunt, I find most mass produced vapes rather ugly. In that context, the Pax is miles ahead imho. All the other usual suspects look like big chunk of plastic, often with an ugly screen, way more similar to power tools, kitchen appliances and electric shavers with a straw than the refined and sophisticated vaping accessories I envision myself using and enjoying. Too complicated visually, with recesses, angles, protruding buttons and stuff.

To quote myself from another post:
I gladly admit that I am more than picky design-wise, I like beautiful objects, plus my ambivalence towards battery and mass produced plastic vapes reduce drastically the options.
I can't help to feel they are lacking soul… We are already surounded so much by "stuff", I think I need my vapes to be more than purely utilitarist, but have that "je ne sais quoi" that make me feel happy to use them.
The Omni and the Vapman have soul imho, and the gestures and ritual to use them, despite being less convenient, add more than just press a button, hit it and be done with it, if that make sense.

That said, either I do not fuss much about performance and buy a new Pax Plus to enjoy the look, design and practicality, or I try to broader my horizon while trying to narrow the choices down (yeah it makes sense in my head :D ).

- Nomad and Toad. Sadly not a realist option.
- TM2? I hesitated a while ago, and renounced (too expensive, too much for my lighweight need and tolerance, etc)
- Firewood? I was not a huge fan at first, and the more I look at pictures, the more it grows on me.
- Milaana?
- Some other Wood Mod vape?
- Other?

To be honest, I also consider the alternative to forget this and ditch the portable option, and make another more ritualistic setup with a Lotus and a splendid wood pipe or a nice glass, and keep weed use a special moment.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advices. Have a nice day/night wherever you are on this planet.

I might be in the same boat.

I've never tried a dynavap, let alone a pax, but I enjoy beautifully and ingeniously crafted devices as well as ritualistic approaches. Vapman is my n°1 for over a decade and I agree that the two hands operation is not ideal while hiking or out with the kid.

Yet I've never stepped into the battery powered game because I'm too reluctant having to deal with batteries and super expensive devices. (Plus I think only the TM2 looks nice and sadly pure convection doesn't satisfy me as much as hybrid or conduction).

So I've settled to either the vapman or the Vaponic when I'm outside. I will have a sesh whenever we take a break or reach a summit. If I don't have the time for a vapman sesh then I'll do a one hitter with the Vaponic (@Chicken No Name heating method) and an other one later if needed.

Usually I don't need more than that...

Yeah… Deep down I know that rather sooner than later I’ll buy a nice Lotus and commission a beautiful wood pipe to enjoy while watching the sunset.

But I admit I am very surprised at how I miss that little Pax, despite its shortcomings I really enjoyed sipping while walking in the forest. And while I am wary of what it causes to my tolerance and frequency of use, I also have to acknowledge the convenience of a portable battery vape.

We need more people like Dan, who crafts beautifully functional pieces of art. :D

Have you ever considered the MFLB? It involves batteries of course, but they're only AAs. It's still a really nice vape to this day if you know how to use it.

That's funny because when I was deciding for my first vaporizer 13 years ago I've quickly narrowed it down between the Vapman and the launch box.

But I like to play with fire and being in Europe the vapman made a lot of sense. (And tbh design and craftsmanship are another level).

Today I'm not in the market for a new vape and I try to narrow down my (already small in regards to this forum) collection.

Heh, the Box was my first about 10 or 11 years ago! Good times.

I’d hesitate to recommend a MFLB nowadays since the AA battery system is a little fiddly, but I did really love mine when I was younger. If the new owner makes the 510 mod though I would definitely give my MFLB a second try.

Would recommend messaging @Dan Morrison to get on the Toad list, then pick up something else while you wait. I’ve been on the Toad waitlist for about 2 years now, but I managed to snag one in a quarterly raffle after about 1 year on the list.

I always advocate for the Firewoods, the 9 is my current favourite device and the 10 looks great but we have basically no information on it other than a mockup. Tinymight is also very popular, but I haven’t tried it so can’t speak for or against.

Milaana, lotus, vapman and MFLB are fairly similar to the Morwood vapes in that they (except the vapman click) have no indication they’re at temp, so you need to learn a tempo for optimal use. It’s not a downside, but will require you to pay more attention to heating cycles. Love my Toad and Vapman, but they’re a better fit for days where I’m able to set up a hammock or find a nice place to sit and focus on the ritual rather than my current quick winter walks.

Milaana. Lana. LANA. LANAAAA! (TM2/TP80/BAK/FW9)
TM2 and FW9 are top tier portables readily available imo depends which style you prefer as they are perfect counterparts... There are plenty of other options of course, and other threads comparing, but it's easy for me to recommend either one especially this case

is this thing on?
The Pax leans conduction, never tried the Pax but if you liked the conduction and portability, the Firewood 9 is super solid. Definitely get on the Toad list too and you have a great conduction / convection combo! :)

I just want to chime in and say that the TM2, while definitely portable, is quite a bit heavier and bulkier than the Pax, Firewood, or Dan Morrison vapes. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for your hiking / walking use cases, especially since you are lower tolerance (like me).

I actually completely share your sentiment that there is a time, place, and tolerance level / performance expectation at which the Pax really really shines. Part of me would even suggest that you just get another Pax, as well as the CH Pusher accessory that allows you to reduce the Pax bowl (which is frankly way too large) down to Dynavap-sized loads. By reducing the bowl size, the device becomes more on-demand, in the sense that you don't feel like you're wasting weed between heat ups. Performance is great too, flavor on the first couple hits is pretty damn good. You can even do whole nugs like this. It does add a little extra thingy you have to keep track of while on the move, but I think it's well worth it.

The Firewood line-up probably comes second in terms of form factor, especially the 7, which is shockingly small, but those are hard to get your hand on. Awesome vapes for on-the-go tho. Hit a lot harder than the Pax ime. I don't like the signature as much. Also since they're made of wood you might not be as comfortable keeping them in your pocket absorbing all your sweat. The 10 looks really cool!

TL;DR I genuinely think the Pax + Pusher accessory can be one of the best portable, utilitarian, beater devices for people with low tolerances who want to keep their consumption structured. The bad rep it gets is mostly just because people think its overpriced relative to performance (which it is), and most people value out-of-the-box performance over these other more rhythmic or lifestyle-related qualities. But also you can get them cheap on the Exchange.

*Edit I'm also very very partial to the Vapman for hiking, and taking a break for a quick sesh. Not as good for walking the dog tho! I would say the Vapman is more portable than the Lotus.

I've never felt that way about it personally. I think it's a good design. I can understand how somebody would feel that way though
Yeah, it was my first vape and holds a special place in my heart, but holding the battery in to keep the device on hurts my palm. Also mine seemed to lose charge quickly and took hours to recharge (usually would have to charge overnight), but I very likely had an old batch of batteries.

I see. I used to use mine without the rubber spring a lot or use my thumb to push it unless i was trying to be stealthy. That's true, the battery life is not incredible and they do take a while to charge.

What about v3pro, roffu, lobo, etc. cheaper well received portable vapes abound. Good luck!

I own a Pax Mini. It was the first dry-herb vape I purchased (and that was prior to joining FC).

The Pax Mini has a place for being tiny (palmable) and well-constructed.

But the vapor quality doesn't come close to what I get off my Tiny Might 2 PH.

Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't purchase a Pax Mini again; however, there are times when "discretion" and ease of use cause me to break it out. 99% of the time I'd reach for the TM2 instead.
