Efficient Temperature Vaping - Methods

Do you leave vaped herb in your chamber for later use? (portables)

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to ask you guys your opinions about vaping via temperature as a methodology. What i mean by that is, vaping at 350F to get your daytime buzz on. And then vaping at 380F to get your evening buzz on. The issue is, that with most portable vapes, you have to immediately remove the bud from your chamber after each session.

What I've been doing is Vape at 350F for 5 minutes. Take it out, put it in a container. Come back later, put it back in, vape for 5 min... etc. Until it's all used up.

This is an efficient use of my herbs. BUT! This is also highly inconvenient. And is the main reason I don't smoke when I'm out a majority of the time. Carrying an Ascent + raw buds + container for ABV, then actually going through this process tends to be a real pain. And it takes a while.
The only real benefit to removing used matter is keeping the ceramic's clean. Which, I've actually left the last 10 bowls in and it's still working fine... So it may just be unnecessary.

So I suppose the question is this:

1. How do you guys do this? If you do, that is.

2. Am I just being overly picky with my portable conduction vape? Am I asking too much? lol.

3. @350F I can vape .5 to myself and be fine (10 min). @380F, however, I can still do most things. But I won't... If you catch my drift. Do you guys also experience this? It's a pretty significant difference for me.

The issue is, that with most portable vapes, you have to immediately remove the bud from your chamber after each session.

Why remove the bud? What I do with the couple of conduction portables i sometime use for a few temp stepping sessions throughout the day is take a couple hits after I turn off the vape in-order to cool the load down below vaping temps. The taste suffers quite a bit on each session after the first but the effects are the same imho, and to deal with the taste I can always add a little fresh and stir it into the avb before each new session.

Works for me.

:2c:

Edit: there is no question on the poll that reflects my use. In the morning i need to do a few low temp hits so I feel like eating and don't puke after I do, I later finish the same load on high temps to fight off pain. So yes I often do more than one session with the same load at different temps.
That doesn't make me lazy which seems to be the only choice for someone that does what I do.

Fair enough. You've been added. I suppose that might have been dumb of me =]. You seem to be doing the thing that seems most logical to me. However, every video and page seems to note taht ceramic ovens get gunked up, discolored, etc. But it's unclear on if the discoloration or minimal buildup actually affects effectiveness of the unit.

Mainly I ask because I'd like to load 1 bowl for the day, step up with like 5 puffs each time until it's night time. Then either finish it off at 410F or reload for a fun time. That way I'm not carrying a bunch of crap with me everywhere. lol.

i like to half vape at 165c/330f and then half vape it again at higher temp - 195c/380f

this is how im doing it..

i have two jars for every strain
fresh un-vaped green jar and half-vaped brownish jar

so with 1 scoop i can go

low temp from green jar - 165/330 - half vape (5 puffs) - dump in brownish jar

high temp from green jar - 195/380 - full vape (10 puffs) - dump in rubbish bin

high temp from brownish - 195/380 -half vape (5 puffs) - dump in rubbish bin

ill usually use half as much when im full vaping - so ill get the same no. puffs per session

edit - sorry not much about how to do it when youre out and about

We are all varied and different and that's just perfect. Me, I fall into that camp that generally does NOT vape a load in more than one session. That is, I'm a one session and done with it kind of guy due. Personally, I just think the load gets stale and nasty tasting if left. The one exception to this is my Volcano. I find I can run a bag, put the chamber on the shelf for later, and then come back and vape the rest...at a higher temp if I want that in particular. I think the Volcano is probably as good as it gets for splitting a load across sessions (and with a Digit, for temp based focused extraction).

Now, about that temp based focused extraction: I have all of the tables and have read quite a bit about this and these are my thoughts/caveats:

1. All of these tables were generated using a pure sample of the cannabinoid/terpene being tested and boiling point was determined with this pure sample in a vacumn. We don't vape pure substances very often (The Pure is an exception, I suppose, for those who have access to it) and we don't vape in a vacumn.

2. When we vape, we are extracting the substances from a plant matrix. Not a pure sample in a heat chamber. Very different starting circumstance.

3. The vapes we use are generally NOT scientific instruments and most of the time we really don't know what's going on in our actual oven in terms of temp during a session.

This reading, and my personal experience, leads me to conclude that focused extraction by temp stepping can only be viewed as a very broad generality. That is, I do think low temp is less sedative while higher temps are more couch lock/sedative.

But I think I can control effect even more by source material selection...that is, by the strain that I am vaping.

Just my never humble opinion, not a statement of fact. But this is what my reading and experience have led me to.

Depends on the vape doesnt it? I always pack multiple session loads in my Alfa, partly because it holds almost 0.3 and my sessions only consume maybe a third of that. Also because it works much better with a full load. Its my OTG vape. The screen/bud/screen sandwich ensures the load stays in place while OTG. I throw a silica gel pack in with the vape for peace of mind that bud inside stays dehydrated.
My Sticky Brick OTOH is my "home" vape and I pack 0.1's and clear it every time.

You should keep the AVB.

Even if you've managed to extract the majority of the active compounds through vaporizing the cannabis you could still use the AVB in topical preparations.

I only use concentrates, and when some pools around the ceramic disc in my linx hypnos zero, I just tilt it to let it drip down onto the heating element. And the remainder i just let mix in with the next load.

Only if it's a strain i don't like the flavor of, will i scrape it all out, and do an iso soak, but since I'm very picky with strains and types of concentrate, I haven't done this in months.

Ive gotten to the point where I typically load about a 0.05-0.1 bowl in my underdog or sublimator and will only take 2 hits off of it then dump it. The prices have really been plummeting for me lately due to the increase of bud flowing from legal and medical states so Ive been finding it hard to really "finish" a bowl. I love the pure flavor of that first hit off a bowl and even the second hit is typically disappointing.

I took a 1 year hiatus last year when my son was born. Prior to that I was the same way. However, it got to the point where my tolerance was so high I was going through 1g of BHO @ 97%THC every 4 days. I couldn't get anything off flowers at that point. It was bad.
So after my hiatus I've been only flowers and very happy about it. It's much cheaper, and for some reason it seems that my lungs like vaporized flower MUCH better than BHO.

trying to find a reply on this but can't..
what if i vape at 370F one evening, thus releasing the THC,
and then continuing on higher temps the evening after?
i seem to get settled with a decent high, same as the day before,
but by logic you suppose to "waste" the THC on that 1st session,
no?
i mean, is there still THC left for the higher temps? is it dependent on how long i do the 1st session?

i wonder if thats a vape issue or just personal preference. i load 0.25 in my alfa and still like the taste 12 hits into it. i get 4 sessions of @ 4 hits per sesh. The first sesh tastes amazeballs, the 2nd is very good to me, the 3rd tastes not bad, and its not until the 4th session on a medium-high temp path that it tastes meh (i still get some thc left though which is the only reason i do a 4th session). I couldnt imagine dumping mine after 1 session which would be the equivalent to what youre doing.

I sincerely doubt it is a vape issue. As you pointed out I am also using anywhere between 2.5 to 5 times less per bowl as you are.

I always clear my Mighty out after use because I'm usually out of the house when I'm using it. The vape will smell if ABV is left inside and I typically finish off the bowl anyways.

My Herbalizer is a different story where I'll go through my ABV a second time for night time meds.

No i know that, but I determined that at your rate of consumption I might need to dump my load and start over after something like one 4-hit session and I couldn't imagine doing that with a quarter gram.... But to be fair, I am sipping on mine, not ripping, which does lead to longer lasting taste. So I guess this whole comparison is probably moot given that our hit length could be different and the vapes could be cooking the herbs at different rates.

Time certainly has a lot to do with the efficient use of vaporizing.cannabis . Temperature plays a major role too. If you vape your medicine in a vape for a 5 minute session at a low-ish temp there will be THYC left.

At higher temperatures your medicine will release additional cannabinoids. It is possible to get almost 100% out of your medicine, but that would involve vaping until almost black, which would turn most folks off.

Another thing to remember, not all vapes temperature sensors are 100 % accurate 100% of the time. 385 F may at times be only 360 F or visa versa.

Don't get hung up on a number for the temperature setting. Vape at a temp that feels comfortable for you.

If your AVB looks like you want to use it again (perhaps in a desktop) save it to be used before bed.

...never experienced any problems going back...on any of my vapes...some handle it better than others (convection)....but in my experience conduction will work too....maybe not as tasty...big deal.

I've been doing some reading lately about using vaped weed for edible's. So I'm waiting to get about 7 grams and going to do something like a brownie mix or something just for kicks .

You need about 4 times the amount of ABV as you would green herb depending on how well it has been extracted. It tends to be a sleepy/relaxed edible that isn't nearly as potent. As always be careful when testing out edibles.

I noticed it depends on the strain and vaporizer how good is ABV. Sometimes one gram worth of ABV will make me fly into the atmosphere, sometimes I just get a little buzz.
