Had some family return from Costa Rica and they brought back a few beautiful handcarved bowls. They were told it's Mahogany, but it looks like Cocobolo to me. So I took to the Internet and I'm still thinking I am correct. However, you would certainly think the seller would have the correct information, even though it was a quick beach transaction. When they said they got around 5 or 6 bowls for a $100 total, I about shit my pants.

Good morning, @SSVUN~YAH Steal of a deal bro at $100, you got a great deal I feel! The top and bottom one are most certainly Cocobolo, really like the top one that was turned from the sapwood into the heartwood, love how the white sapwood goes all the way around it, very neat! The middle left piece looks like Mango or Koa or a Koa similar species, there are many many lower grade species that are very similar to it and more available that can be passed off as the real thing and in the tropical countries are quiet prevalent. Good score bro, well done!

Thanks Ed! The bottom piece is a Cocobolo ring dish and the Koa looking bowl is Praduak. I couldn't find much information about Praduak but it's definitely similar to Paduak just a different shade.

I just hope you are using at least one of those bowls as a weed bowl. Absolutely beautiful & the beauty increases with a gram of your favourite nug ground up in the bowl.
@SSVUN~YAH sent me this bowl in a trade. Seems he gets lots of cool bowls from Costa Rica.

It says mahogany on the bottom and while it's not currently being used as a "weed bowl" it is my current "screen bowl" so I hope being weed related counts for something?
