No, I did not notice any odd flavors, tasted clean to me. I only used it a few times and cleaned it up with Iso. It's practically new still.

yeah, you are looking down onto the bowl so it is much easier to see.

Is this remotely close to pocketable?

depends on the pocket I suppose, it isn't huge, by any means. I wouldn't put it in the front pocket on a tight pair of jeans unless you wanted to attract attention, but in an average loose pocket, it should be fine IMO.
