Bowl gets warm but it isn't actively cooking the herb-- I can leave mine on forgotten for an hour or two with no noticeable color change in herb, and it tastes just as good coming back.

The XQ2 comes with two heat resistant silicon grips that slide over the bowl top that I think you'll find pretty adequate.

The XQ2 is about the best use case for this. No hot coils, and the herb isn't cooking sitting on the heater unless you are inhaling actively to draw the hot air through it.

I reach for the whip through a dry Orb 95% of the time-- sounds like you're drawing fast and hard, and that may not be playing to the strengths of the XQ2. Play around with the whip and a dry glass piece?

Elbow packing also means you can lift the elbow off between hits to stop cooking it, especially with a shorter bowl. More conservative use of flower and the flavor lasts longer.

The XL ER stashes are the way to go if you can source one. I got the Vgoodiez dosing capsules and cut down the tube to fit, beautiful combo.
