Same problem. Trying shutting it off while it's heating up [orange LED on] and see if that works for you too.
I tend to turn it off when the LED is on max brightness; if I do it too early, the wispr does not shut off until I empty it of butane.
My Wispr now only seems to shut off if I turn it off WHILE it's heating up. If I turn it off any other time while It's on, it will just keep reheating. :/
I know the people at Gotvape.com and they said I have a 2year warranty, so I can just send it back any time I want. I might have to go back...

I've had the Wispr for a month now, and have used my Iolite for a little over a year. The original iolite is pitiful without the optimizer, btw.
