I think the reason I use the hot link is that I tend to upload the biggest version of an image I can so I want the user to experience the biggest image they can for saving as wallpaper etc...I definitely see the use of the direct link and editing the size for sure. Good to be back, I was away...

I use hot link for forums from postimage here successfully as well.
