As you said Seek, to each his own! The stems can be cleaned just not submerged is all. Simply get some bristled pipe cleaners dip them in ISO and shake out the excess, push em through the stem and let dry. That should do it! Not seeing the vapor is not a big deal imo, you can feel it and also...
