I try to not fill it past half way, when I fill it to the top I feel a lot more compelled to stir it, and the last half of the bowl is meh anyway, so two birds with one stone filling it half way.

yep, what kush said. it will only activate if you're holding it horizontally and rotate it like a screw driver sort of speak. It will only activate one direction, it comes on in 3-4 full rotations usually, and its easy, I can do it with one hand in a matter of seconds.
