It's way better used with the wand in my experience

I heated my CXL with a torch for a while but I stopped after getting a wand, it works a lot better in my experience. A torch is still great though, you'll just want something moderately powerful for best results.

You probably won't need more cooling, the Convector XL vapor is very cool already

Is there a real difference between the performance of the new oven in the TM2 Purple Heart versus the original TM2?

Yeah, it's a great vape and incredibly efficient. The short stem is actually pretty useful because you can push the cooling unit almost all the way down and pack a small disc of herb at the bottom, tamp it down a little then vape it all in one big, surprisingly cool hit at 6-8.
