having spent some good time with both the new TC and GC miniVAP, I have to say that both new units are a different sort of beast than either of my previous ones. basically the new units are more powerful.
but the difference isn't just quantitative. both of my new units are basically incapable...
my experience dealing with Hermes directly has been totally positive. better than any of my experiences with any of the miniVAP vendors. they even managed to ship my new teflon core to me here in the US, from Spain, in 3 days (for free).
speaking of which, between the GC and the TC I am in...
good question and the answer is that they are almost exactly the same diameter at the rim, and if anything the outer diameter of Q basket is a touch larger. I would need a precise caliper to measure the difference, it's microscopic.
bonus feature of the Q baskets is they make neat little caps...
it's not great to see the cracked intakes, but it's not a huge deal. early adopters might need to chill a bit. FC members should know that even boro is quirky, and this is a brand new product. these parts are easily replaced.
I have spent some more time with my GCmv. Wow, this thing absolutely NUKES herbs. It is certainly not a pure convection unit, rather it appears to provide substantial conduction and radiation as well - very similar to the mighty/crafty. Had me wondering last night if this thing was actually...
this glass core model really is different. it actually performs very similarly to the Cloud Evo in terms of both the massive vapor output and the way flavor deteriorates after ~2 hits... I like to use very small loads in the Evo that I can finish in ~2 hits, to avoid the spent taste. might...
I received my replacement miniVAP today from Vapornation and just finished my first session with it. it is one of the new glass core models.
first impression: seems like it might give a more aggressive extraction than my first two teflon units. effects are very strong with that lovely MV...
yes, with no cooling chamber attached. just look at any of the miniVAP milk vids posted by @Roger D to see the no lid miniVAP technique. then, instead of a lid-less miniVAP, use a Crafty/Mighty with no cooling unit.
voila. nearly 100% convection
you can also use the Crafty in exactly the same way that you would use a miniVAP with no lid! works great and you get a different experience due to the almost total lack of conduction
in my experience Lily has the greater potential for harshness than Daisy due to the shorter and more direct vapor path. The distance between the torch and your mouth is shorter. Both are manually operated. You can just back off with the torch and/or adjust your draw if you experience any...
you got the VAS... just buy a fucking vapman dude.
that's what I did
back on topic. my rate of extraction with Lily is currently only limited by harshness on the throat if I get too aggressive. I'd like to try it with a water piece! @TriiKLe - Hey Tommy: what's up with that gong???
bro... sorry but it's probably just your MV failing. this is how both of my failed units died. performance declined very gradually across the entire temp range. it's a bit of a mindfuck. I kept wondering if my herb had somehow degraded, or if my tolerance had increased, or if the honeymoon...
no, not exactly. but it could just be a function of my Daisy being more broken-in than my Lily.
I'm using a very different draw technique with the Lily than I do with the Daisy. with the Daisy i do a slower, shorter draw, where with the Lily I am doing a faster draw for basically as long as I...
Lily training/progress update: this thing is a little beast!
It has taken me a little bit longer to get my technique down with Lily than it did with Daisy, but I am blasting through loads in 2-3 draws now, blowing huge clouds. SCS shred + tamping the load down really seems to help?
flavor...
