Mine is right around 5 minutes of inactivity it turns blue, which is standby. Leave it for another 5 and it turns off. Saves battery power. Something is not right as all 3 of my cores produce great clouds!

Only way to remove is by disassembly... My glass core still has an extremely faint plastic smell, not silicone smell, and it is 2(?) years old. I do not taste it in the vapor and when it is hot, even on red, the smell never increases. I just clean with alcohol or isopropyl and leave it at that...

If you remove that piece there will be no seal at all. The angle of the silicone is perfect for sealing the silicone edge of the flexicone, even without the lid. All cores seal the same way. Why do you want to remove it to form a seal? Place just the flexicone on it and see how it fits perfectly.
