Here's a preventative trick you can try. Lightly coat the inside of a clean mouthpiece with high temp cooking oil. When you go to clean it, just swab it out and reapply oil. Don't let it get too crazy dirty between cleanings.

Mine seems to misread temp if I heat initially with GonG in place (could be the same for any insert) rather than with oven covered by stopper. I need to test more to see if that hypothesis is true.
