I think you're probably right. I do know though that often with titanium parts, manufacturers just don't want to make them because it's so much harder to machine than aluminum. I'm not sure if there's something about the geometry of the heat shield that makes it particularly difficult to make...

I have read a few times now that the titanium heat shield doesn't have any practical effect outside of adding weight and cost to the tempest. I bought one anyway because I just like nice machining and can appreciate it even more with something like titanium. I just had one question about it...
