Thought you might be interested in [http://www.kickstarter.com/]. Basically its a nice GUI and storefront that handles people pre-ordering products. The company allows pledge money and only have to pay if enough pre-orders are made to proceed with production. The company takes 5% though($0 if...

A quick googling found tons of kinds of thermal fuses. Just get one that activates at 500-600F.

I think my gate line got melted through. I really don't remember. That particular model has had the controls ripped out. It also could have been with the old shitty mosfet. I used to have those mosfets blow up and short. Before I send the prototype (so busy with other shit won't happen for a...

Maker bots are sweet. I'm waiting for kits to come out for the RepRap MKII Mendel to come out. they plan on having circuit printing abilities. Print a vape!!! (oh. after reading looks like they still haven't made promising progress) Though the mendel version is more accurate and has a larger...

Shorting is a problem I've had in the past. Way back is a pic of a melted oven chamber. The short was glowing red. That is the main problem with the vape. I have been trying to get one ready for my non-technical minded brother, but I'm concerned shipping or something will jostle things too...

Hey. Does the latest version save setpoint between session if it's been changed to a non-default number?

Haha. That's the problem writing a thesis and getting a job... No time to work on my pet projects. I got some other cool weed/booze related gadgets I'm thinking of. I'm building a website and once I successfully test them I'll post em to website.

Sure a hex would be great. I'm always interested in the latest version. I don't know how much is the old algorithm or if its the difference in volts of power supply, but the current one doesn't work too great. I haven't been really using vape or working on building them. I have 3 half working...

Yep... though I wonder what'll happen when weed gets legalized, since there are several patents on weed vaporizers and the us govt has a patent on medical marijuiana... http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/6630507.html I guess once it's legal all vaporizer will admit their true uses and be used a...

How did you measure the response time? My batteries top out at 8v and run down to 6v. A short is possible, but I thought i had checked it. EDIT: It is only a .3ohm element.... so 24A Once again on the PID my advice is kill derivative at least temporarily. A lot of PID controllers for heating...

Haha. I got the battery set up going. The only problem is now I gotta make my set up faster responding. Running a .5ohm element with 8v heats up so fast by the time the thermocouple's temperature catches up and it tries to turn it off, the teflon gets melted through and the thermocouple shorts...

Yep. The core weakness of the PID when improperly tuned is that at the setpoint the error is 0. You can get around that with integral term. Assuming you haven't overshot too much, the integral will be non-zero and unchanging at the setpoint. So what you need to do is adjust integral. If I were...

Looks sweet. Did you post your cutting method for the tubes. I just ordered a glass tube cutter from the net, so I should have some nice looking oven tubes. I got tired of scoring with a file and then snapping them. Sometimes it work ok, mostly was jagged though.

tt- be very careful if you're going to use that many amps. Bad choices of insufficiently rated connectors or mosfets could result in very bad stuff. If you look back at the pics I posted of melted glass due to a short on the mosfet, which was in a system only using 8A! Imagine 50A. I don't think...

You already don't have to pay for the maxx6675. You can sample 5 of them for free from Maxim's website. Part of the reason for the thermocouple is the absoluteness of thermocouples and the lower error. I'm not sure what the resistance and beta tolerances on that, but it is probably less tight...

Aha I was wondering why the green LED wasn't turning on. I didn't wait the 60s after reaching set point....EDIT: Seems that even after a minute the green LED isn't turning on. Perhaps during the minute it is swinging too much so it keeps reseting the ready timer. Could be due to differences in...

Grrr. I too am now having some trouble tuning. I switched out to a smaller heating element to get mroe amperage, but now it swings wildly. Edit: I think I foudn the problem. The coil was shorting near the thermocouple, so the crazy swigns were the short getting super hot, then the heat...

The load problem is annoying. In a future version I'd like to do 12 or 120v and rely on a huge heating element to make things easier. Other possible ideas: thermal grease layer in the gaps between the heating element and the oven tube and insulation layer over the coil. I think I might machine...

Yes. I suppose. It is important to automate things and not leave it in the hands of a potentially inexperienced or incompetent user. I am preparing a prototype to send to my brother who is a musician and doesn't know the first thing about electronics. I'm paranoid it will break somehow and...
