Yes you can hook it up to a water pipe. The underdog can be run 24/7 and as long as the vvps isn't left about 12v it won't hurt the unit but could lower its life expectancy a bit. But, with a vvps you can lower the voltage and then when you're ready to go it'll be up to temp in 5 mins. Pretty...

I own a Nano and a few UD's. I prefer the UD's with a vvps over the Nano but it's all personal preference I suppose. Really can't go wrong with either.
