You are right that they last. I tried to say that, but add these bulbs are more than "off the shelf lamp" bulbs. :) My point was to make clear it wasn't a simple replacement (let alone getting into the damn thing). And any day I get a "smack" from you , I'll put that in the "good day"...

IIRC, the bulb didn't look a thing like a halogen lamp bulb. That being said the basic technology is there, but the Herbie's bulb was a more industrial bulb. (Probably better life and specs than a lamp bulb). Which of course means one can't just buy a lamp bulb if you break the herbie's bulb.

From what Josh was saying, it isn't really user changeable, but then he mentioned some ungodly MTBF that, for the most part means the majority of users won't have to worry about it. Wish I could remember the actual number of expected hours he said, but it was enough I was no longer concerned...
