Have you tried using it with any other cartridges besides a Herc? Do you have a multimeter (DVOM)? Put it in the resistance, Ω mode and touch one lead to the threads and the other lead to the center post. Let us know what it is!

I like it! My best Snap-on socket extensions are knurled for grip, and the X-acto knurling makes it easy to loose the blade for a quick change. I bet the parts here are subject to some heat cycling that can tighten up threads and the knurling should make our lives easier.
