Yes there is an auto shut off of 10 seconds. The coil does not glow anywhere near as red as a previous pen of mine, which is even more evidence that there is power regulation going on.... I'm pretty sure its more of a power regulation than an actual temp-sensor per se.

IMHO they should sell the SR-74 with a brand-spanking new set of AW IMR's Tstat if you are using the stock batteries that came with your persei, you are probably going to be disappointed. SR74 runs much better and longer with better batteries (ie: AW IMR 18350s) Surprised someone didn't mention...
