It's not a great idea for everyone but if you remove the outer metal cover it runs a lot cooler, the cover seems to conduct a fair amount of the heat straight back into the base.

Interesting, maybe some units run hotter than others or dissipate heat differently, the case on mine never really gets past warm.

I would think so, the glass around the endcap is cool to the touch when it's just sitting there. The only time it even gets warm is when your pulling air through it. Ensuring the same level of ventilation would be advised though, especially around the middle where there is the most heat.

Draw speed affects heat, have you tried inhaling very slowly?

I would love a whip attachment for my Cano, I never use it because I find the bag to be a nuisance. I think with a whip it could provide a decent hit closer to the mighty SSV. Shame they don't offer the option.
