Depends on a huge number of factors including what part of body is in pain. For me a Sour Diesel works on nerves from the Lumbar (lower) spine, not higher up. A related strain I just found, they call Chiesel, seems to cover mid level spine as well.

Two more variables: dose and temperature. For a lot of medical use with today's strains, one good hit is plenty. And with a vaporizer you can control which terps and cannabinoids you're getting, by adjusting the temp. Personally I only want the low temp fractions, the rest just makes me tired.
