Thanks for this post. I ended up tossing my cheap quartz and buying a reputable brand. It wasn't worth knowing that the cheap quartz could be releasing impurities into my smoke, or also making the quartz weaker by using impurities.... Might be overkill, but better safe than sorry I suppose.
