Yeah, best way to gauge temperature is by taste. I like to start at 350/175 and work my way to 420/215. Max flavor to max extraction. The clouds aren't as thick doing it this way, but I feel like the effects are better.

The strain and the quality of the bud and dosage amount makes the difference for me. Heating type has no influence at all. I've been completely underwhelmed with certain buds on both delivery methods. Also been compelely wrecked with both.

Sounds like you got a lemon. The Alfa IS made of good materials. Mine never had any of those issues and I never once had any robot/plastic/electronic off smells/tastes. The low temp terpy draws on mine tasted insanely good.
