The straight line looks unusual but the plate does always change with use. There's a one year warranty on the plate from breakage, which is usually cracking, when it happens. I think you should decide how done the herb is by its color, not the cloud size.

I haven't seen a straight line bend like that before and it will get change shape with age but if it functions fine then you're OK. There's also a 1 year warrantee on the hot plate if needed. I would go by herb color instead of cloud size, dark brown and it's done.
