The leaking occurs after use or after it is warmed. I doubt it would leak overnight seeing as it's cold. But I get what you're saying.

I found a neat trick. If you cover the airholes with your fingers and tap one as if playing a flute while puffing you will get thicker clouds of smoke. Seems to burn through the liquid faster but it's all good. I know where it's going. :D
