Yes batteries can be dead on arrival (DOA). If ur bottom spring is good I would suspect the batteries. Especially the none AW IMR batteries. I had a dead one too but I had extra AW set. Let us know how it goes. And the Persei tool is bAdass. Can't outlung this sr74. Learn to respect it and care...

Yes I have noticed too when battery is low you get splatter. Sucks! I try to keep charged batteries along with the slow steady consistent draw works.
