Agreed. Its more to do with the reduced heat transferred to the load than with any effects of radiative heating. The vortex helps evenly vape the herbs but also reduces the efficiency of heat transfer.

I believe your piece comes with a M2M just like the one you linked, that will fit the tube without the Hose adapter

I think tightening up the hole for the heater would solve most issues and as you say help "grip" the element better.

You can purchase a water pipe adapter that should fit the 19mm female joint or you can use the 19mm M2M that comes with the piece and simply slide the hose into the male joint like this:
