Here's what ya do: When doing a thread cleaning, take DetoxIT-D and place several tiny drops on the inside threads of the battery compartment. Roll it around so the Solution spreads through and between all the threads. THEN, take the backend - NO BATTERY!! - and screw it on, and then screw it...

Yes, it is I, come to enlighten all with other people's knowledge  @Skywalker OG , I have read your posts and I gotta empathize with you; jesus, man, it's the terse attitude in her prose that gets me. I remember when I had Pax problems, they'd CALL me and talk about it. Gotta be...

I've yet to do this backend cleaning in the crack between the temp dial and backend... what do you use? Dental floss? Unwaxed, I presume? Moon, I respect your concern about this, but what is more worth worrying about is the idea that the air holes could get so clogged in the first place. And...

As you surmise, there really is nothing coming through from the battery compartment unless you were get an obstruction of airflow greater than the force necessary to move the air in the battery compartment through it. No air moves into/past the oven and into the mouthpiece. You'd have to make...

Let us hope we have to use warranty service as near to never as possible! Seriously, are there grasshopper users that are not on any forums? The Resource Thread is an Essential... like much of this forum, it's' required reading for anyone thinking about buying one.@Vapor_Eyes

Happy to say that my returned Raw Ti unit that I suspected of a hot back end has been confirmed as such. New backend on the way with my returned unit. FYI, I didn't know I should have sent my battery in with the hopper for the warranty; Caroline messaged me pointing that out. So I guess...

They did say that, yes... I could be misremembering things, but other than the silicon piece, I never recall people talking about losing a mouthpiece - not that having spares isn't a great idea! Maybe they are listening. It'd be nice if they introduced themselves. I believe you're...

If only GHL would read these posts. There's nothing but great input for them to learn about how to make their product be the best it can be; and this battery performance variation issue (their lack of spec control) just seems to be at such odds with their "precision engineering" piece of...

I assure you I wasn't laughing at your speculation; just near it. :) You've made good points that certainly we all can agree on; a mediocre safe battery is way better than a powerhouse that can blow your nose off. And $7 isn't a bad deal, even at 10 batteries per year. 5.5 chambers! Full...

Wow we got a bonafide Think Tank here; very cool! I'm learning a lot here, boys! I gotta agree, if they'd apply PWM at any point, startup would be where efficiency is most needed. That is actually a cool idea... praise be to the One who happens to have access to one of those! Shame on me...

External 18650 Battery Pack and Adapter for the GrassHopper

Well that IS interesting! Do you mean that there is more to the backend than it being a simple connection path for the battery? Even if, in that drawing, that backend had machined metal threads (with insulation for the center contact etc)? Anyway, Your first idea was GREAT!!!

Agreed, Hawk... Between what must be a very special technology in that heater, along with the smallest battery that must have uniquely qualified for the purpose of the pen design, they're working some magic there. I think the failures may be a combination of repeatability of the manufacture...

Right Up Front: I'm not a graphics artist, nor do I have any d[/IMG] esire being involved in the business end of this endeavor, but I sure as hell want to see Joel succeed. And if he passes the baton on as he moves onto other cool creations, I'd want to see anyone else's endeavor to making the...

@Icon13 and @Hawk , I do not know nearly as much as you guys about batteries and although I are an engineer, radio frequency is my thing.... Just as it's been said, via Ohm's Law, I just don't know how 12A can be packed into that little battery. So as you've bespoken about Discharge Rates...

Ok great info, thank you, ZC. I still enjoy the idea of an entire insert that only needs to be plugged in at the top - so not USB, but more appropriate connector (like a 5.5 mm barrel connector). The buck can be downstream at the plug, and the variable pot inline to dial in the current draw.

I don't know what the max current output of USB is, nor do I understand how 45 Watts is generated from a 4 Volt battery (12 Amps!?!), but if it's possible to drive the hopper with a USB source, then imagine a Dummy Battery that has a mini-USB socket at the top (in place of where the clicker is...

Icon, thanks for those tech facts; always wondered about why voltages are as they are. @Joel W. I'm still impressed by your ingenuity on that mega-battery adapter you've made. Especially that body-insert. That in itself is the "way in" to a solution that may eventuate somewhere in the gadget...

:D:D:D It would be a fantastic thing to have those black doobtubes at half their length. It'd fit in my pocket better and be easier to handle--- and if it had a cap that was tethered with a Robbin of its own material. Oh, @Ratchett , hear our call!! :D

Myself, I'm scared of clowns. I have a battery that mysteriously developed a jagged wrap at the positive terminal end; like it had been chafed badly at the top-side circular edge. I can't figure how that would happen, but, there ya go. Although the battery's metallic case is the negative...
