The "Open" email you're referring to was just the preorder email he sent out that people replied to for the chance to be in the first batch, then the "closed" email was just another email he sent immediately after the spots filled up to let people know it was over

If you do get one, something that I find really useful is that I spent an extra 5 dollars to get a matching stash tool. Normally they are dabbers, but I had mine made as a flat head so I always have a tool to adjust my lighters with.

For me it really enriched my enjoyment of it. It streamlines the whole process.
