No, you should only sand down (hight wise) on the inner ring till you just about hit the indent. Dont sand at all inside the inner ring. Other than the tabs getting cut in on the sides you should do nothing to the outer ring. I just sanded the tabs a bit for an easier fit. The table idea wont...

Its pretty easy to do and sooo much better than the stock cap, even looks better. The Alternate with the crafty top is a solid performer. Also left a charged battery in my unit all week with no use, no drain. Guess Im lucky.

First you need to cut the locking tabs on the outer ring, just eye it against the stock cap. I used nail clippers (works great) and sanded them smooth with the dremel afterwards. Then you gotta sand down the inner ring, in my experience right down to the inner screen ring (indent) I did this...

For a second before completion I was bummed I went the Craftynate route (thinking the replacement would be superior) though gotta say it absolutely rocks. Airtight and looks awesome not to mention super easy to do. For anyone looking into it here is my source. Bought a 3 pack, came out to 13$...
