mine is not flush either, just tight enough to stay on and keep the stem tight.

That's definitely happened to me before as well. Mine is usually not difficult to insert, just a bit of resistance enough to slow it down a little as i put the stem in or pull it out.

Somewhere buried in the thread, TM dude is quoted in saying that the bottom plate is designed to absorb the heat during charging or something like that, so it shouldn't be concerning that it gets warm.
