You don't need to cut a taper, just a straight sided hole that is narrow enough to catch the top lip, and wide enough to allow the 18mm male part of the fitting to fully insert! Just measure the top of the joint and find a bit that's appropriate 👍

I use one if these tiny bubbles dry as my DD. It now comes with a carry case, I've not tried the new version but I expect it to be similar. They do down stems to match, the bing Chinese with a bowl stem combo... You might like to check the length with the seller of the new ones, but you can...
